Has anyone experienced pain or gone on to have issues with endometriosis after a complete hysterectomy?
I had an oophrectomy of the right ovary in Oct 2013, due to a massive cyst. This went on to develop further into stage four endometriosis and they also diagnosed adenomyosis and I had a full hysterectomy in Nov 2016.
I’m now experiencing pain again, lower abdomen and back. I wondered if anyone else had suffered further after a hysterectomy. I’m planning to see my GP later this week for a referral back to the specialist to see what’s going on.
I feel like I’m in a three-year cycle!

I am sorry to hear you are in pain again after a total hysterectomy.I had a total hysterectomy and bilateral ooperacthomy in 2014 as I had endo stage IV,adenomyosis and fibroids.
I have been pain free for 5 years and I regained my life. However for the last 2 months I have had increasing pain in my lower back, vagina and abdomen, as well as a very swollen tummy. So I went back to my gynae and had a transvaginal and normal ultrasound scan and endo is back on my bowel and behind the vaginal cuff.I was on HRT and the Dr switched me now over to Tibolone plus I have been taking pain killers but no difference. So most likely surgery this week.
I didn't want to believe the endo is back.
I seem to have a 5 years cycle. This would be op number 4
Unfortunately it seems that this beast comes back even after hysterectomy. Are you on HRT? I hope you get some answers soon and it's not endo.
Thank you so much for your reply, and I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in pain again. It’s just horrible isn’t it?
I did have HRT patches to begin with, but I didn’t wear them for that long and am pretty menopause-symptom-free for the most part, bar the odd hot flush and mega-sweaty night. As it’s nothing I can’t cope with I stopped the patches.
I’m going to ask my GP to refer me back to the specialist so that I can have a scan and see what’s going on. I suspect that some endo is back, it remains a question of how much...
Yes, it is quite horrible and I can fully relate on how you must feel.
I have been taking HRT for the last 5 years as hot flushes and insomnia kicked in really bad after the hysterectomy and as I was 43 at the time my gynae suggested it was better to go on the HRT. I think that has stimulated further endo that may have not been removed at the time. However if you haven’t had the HRT patches for long hopefully they haven’t stimulated much the endo and even if turns out to be endo may not be a lot. In my case it does not seem to be as much as of when I had previous surgeries but the symptoms are like as if I still had my uterus and ovaries.
I hope you can see the specialist soon. Look after yourself and keep in touch xx
