Endo back after hysterectomy

I had hysterectomy in March 2020 leaving my ovaries in. I've recently had an ultrasound due to pain and bloating that has indicated that my endo is back around my ovaries. Gynaecologist has suggested taking my ovaries since I am now nearly 48. Has anyone else had this experience?

Yeah I had hoped that would be the case but this condition is so hard to predict

Hi I haven't experienced exactly what you are but I am waiting for a hysterectomy and they said they will take my ovary with the endometrioma out and possibly the other ovary. I didnt question anything at the time but seem to think if they leave an ovary then the endo can return. I hadn't thought this through before!

So in short I guess in your case they need to come out, which is a scary thought! To be forced into the menopause.

I hope it goes well for you.

Just out of interest how long was recovery for you? I need hysterectomy along with endo out and bowel surgery.

Thankyou 😊

I took 6 weeks off but after 3 weeks I was feeling great! I had a really smooth recovery as I did everything they suggested

Hello,

I’m 30 and 8 days post op from my total hyster with both ovaries gone so can only say how it’s been so far - which is actually the best I’ve felt in years, even with the faffing of recovering from surgery. I’ve got virtually no pain and my bloating is gone.

Hysterectomy and menopause don’t cure endo, though. If any lesions, even microscopic ones, are left during surgery, it will grow back. It is however our best shot imo. I also had severe adenomyosis so that was the indication for hyster. My endo always originated from both ovaries so I chose to have them gone.

As the waiting list was long, my consultant suggested to try Prostap for a while to see if my body would adapt to menopause and if anything went wrong at least this was reversible, as a trial before surgery. It was a success and I had the best months whilst on the injections. Definitely recommend if you are scared of jumping to surgery first.

Hope this helps xxx

Thanks. Yeah I feel surgery is drastic without trying other things first. I’m also 48 and in peri menopause already and not taking any HRT yet.

I’m really torn about what option to take.
