Hello, I’m 18 years old and have suffered with pelvic pain the last 2 years. This year the pain has been unbearable and spread to bladder, bowel etc. I had my first gyne appointment last week and he said it’s either endo or IBD but because of my weight and body shape (size 6-8), he won’t do a laparoscopy as in his words ‘there is high risk of hitting a major artery’ when going in. I’m now being referred back to gastro for more tests to rule out IBD but I’m now completely freaked out as I kind of know in my heart that it’s endo. I just wondered if anyone has been told a similar thing and has had the laparoscopy because I’m now so so so scared.

Laparoscopy advice?
Hi,
I've not heard being too thin as a reason not to have laparoscopy before (although what do I know!). However, I seem to remember that tests for IBD are less invasive, therefore it seems sensible to get those done first before jumping in to surgery.
Don't be afraid to ask for a followup appointment or second opinion if you aren't sure. Are you being seen at a BSGE centre?
Best wishes
Thanks for your reply, I guess it is sensible to go for the less invasive tests first. I’m being seen under general gyne at my local hospital, but I will definitely ask for a second opinion, I can’t live with the pain much longer!! I was considering paying to see a specialist to see if they were willing to do a laparoscopy
Sounds like a good idea - if you do go private, try to see a gynae with a special interest in endo. In my case, seeing an endo specialist privately made a world of difference. Best of luck with it all.
