Bloating.. help!

Hi guys,

I’m sure this question is out there so many times but I need some help. I’m currently under investigation (again!) by gynae for my returned symptoms of chronic pelvic pain, inner thigh pain, fatigue, pain after sex, sadly the list goes on🙄 but the last 2 weeks or so I’ve had serious problem with bloating and nothing seems to make it disappear! My belly is so swollen it’s painful to wear any of my jeans or anything at the moment☹️ Does anyone pleeeease have any suggestions to help me get rid?

Thank you!

I get the same thing, and it's a nightmare! I don't know about getting rid of it, since I've not cracked that yet, but I've found these things help: Peppermint or fennel tea, exercise (even just brisk walking), and wearing loose clothes (my skinny jeans don't do up when I bloat, so I've bought some jeggings from New Look which expand with me, which seems to help with the pain). I'm also playing around with my diet to see if that helps - so decreasing meat, gluten, dairy etc. and upping fish, vegetables, fruit etc. I don't know how helpful that is yet though!

Oh, and hot water bottle on your tummy helps too!

Thank you so much, will definitely try these out! Luckily I’m a student nurse currently in theatres so I can wear big baggy scrubs most of the time but it’s knocking my self esteem really because I hate the way it makes me look!

I don’t really think mine is very diet related but I guess I need to just make notes, it just seems to be all the bloody time! Is there a specific diet that you try and follow or just cutting out?

Hey Hun,

Because the symptoms sometimes keep coming back, I find myself doing the C9 Aloe Vera cleanse every 6 months which really seem to help me. Then I move on to the fruit and veg n fish diet.....and non-dairy. I love dairy so I try not to cut it out completely from my diet. Also walking for us ladies at this stage is the best thing. I have had to put yoga on hold a bit cos some of the asanas seem to aggravate the symptoms of endo n adeno.

Fresh ginger n turmeric tea with some honey, castor oil pack treatment works wonders and try to rest if u need to. I’ve done the same as SarahMia227 This makes a massive difference.

I hope u feel better soon💗

Thanks so much I’ll give these a go, looks like a need to play around with my diet and see if it helps! I do a lot of walking which I enjoy but I can’t go as far as I want to now because of pelvic pain! Do you cut out gluten too??

LovingVibes profile image
LovingVibes in reply to bbundey

No I didn’t cut out gluten, but I try to eat more brown rice and sweet potatoes w my food instead of bread. I have some gluten in the week.... maybe toast twice a week. But that’s it.

Also I try to stick to sourdough and rye bread.

Hi again - in terms of diet, I'm doing the same as LovingVibes, not cutting everything out 100% (I am a massive foodie and I think I'd go nuts!) but trying to default to these things like 80% of the time, and then have dairy/gluten/sugar etc when I'm out with friends or as an occasional treat. Here's my list (although I'm not a dietician or doctor, this is just what I think might help):

Things I’m trying to cut out/down on:

Gluten (so pasta, cous cous, bread)

Meat (and especially red meat)

Alcohol

Caffeine

Dairy

Fat/fried food

Sugar

Things I’m trying to increase/are ok:

Fish (esp. oily fish)

Vegetables

Lentils

Beans

Rice

Potatoes/sweet potatoes

Nuts/seeds

Hey bbundey, sorry to hear about your symptoms, i have all the same except for the bloating! How long have you had theae problems? do the docs suspect endo? x

bbundey profile image
bbundey in reply to GSUndiagnosed

They did, then they did a lap and found nothing so discharged me but now all the symptoms have come back even worse than before so I’m going to someone else for a second opinion, second round, first appointment next week x

I totally understand how you feel! I used to get so bloated, I'd have people ask me if I was pregnant (which was frustrating because I really wish I could get pregnant but I couldn't). Bloating can be so painful and uncomfortable. I literally don't wear anything other leggings or loose elasticated trousers now, anything that digs into my stomach will make it bloat and painful. Sucks because it's made a large part of my wardrobe entirely redundant! But I do feel more confident in my clothes.

I've also found avoiding tight bras, or even underwired bras altogether, especially during a flare up or when I'm on my period, to help with bloating.

And lastly, avoiding gluten and milk, also fizzy drinks or anything that makes you gassy, also helps me. Hope your bloating goes down soon X

Thanks lovely, I’ll definitely give these a go! Looks like my wardrobe will have to be put on hold too🙄

I have the very same problem gets worse every month with bloating cramps and can never have sex just before periods, the pain is a nightmare...but I'm currently taking A.Vogel

Molkosan it helps alot with bloating and no tight clothes. I cant have any pressure around

my abdomen.

bbundey profile image
bbundey in reply to Vees

Is Molkosan prescribed by your doctor?

The thing is I take my pill back to back for as long as I can, aiming for only 1 period a year, so I don’t know if it’s cycle related or not, I don’t know if this is helping the bloating or not either

How to get rid of an endo belly? Apart from a well-performed excision surgery/laparoscopy if needed, you need to embark on a long journey to get rid of it for good.

First of all, you need to get your vitamin D levels checked out.

Then, you need to start taking supplements that support the gut and promote modulation of the immune system and reduce oestrogen dominance (such as selenium, zinc, vitmain B6, vitamin B9, magnesium). The LongLife supplements are very good.

If inflammation is your issue, an omega 3, curcumin, flavonoids, quercitin supplement is excellent too. NEVER TAKE OMEGA 6 SUPPLEMENTS.

You also need to seek an experienced nutritionist who can help identify intollerances, SIBO, leaky gut or other underlying issues.

Then you need to start an anti-inflammatory diet.

You need to avoid refined carbs, all desserts, all cow's dairy and any kind of fried or processed food and non-grass-fed meat.

Go for omega-3 rich fish (mackerel, sardines, salmon and tuna), grass-fed animals, free-range eggs, lots of fresh, raw and in-season vegetables (especially salad), fresh and in-season fruit (especially blueberries and pineapple), wholegrains or better those that are naturally gluten free (corn, rice) or high in protein (quinoa). As far as dairy goes, sheep/donkey/goat's dairy are much better. Coconut milk is also a great alternative.

Coffee is ok but should be dark and not more than one a day (substitute other coffees with matcha green tea). Use coconut oil, raw and nigh-quality extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, marine salt, parsley, garlic/onion as dressings only. Do not take other options into consideration.

This is super helpful thank you so much! Will definitely look into this. Just seems like such a big change and as a student it’s not easy to make all the fancy meals with all the good stuff!

StefaniaJW profile image
StefaniaJW in reply to bbundey

As a student, there are lots of healthier takeaway cusines. Go for vegetable curries with rice, Chinese, Indian, Thai, certain Japanese foods. Salmon with roasted potatoes instead of fish and chips :) stuff like that. If you don't nourish your body, it will never heal :)

NSAIDS can help reduce the inflammation but you've probably tried it already. Simethicone for trapped wind won’t make bloating go away entirely but it can take the edge off the worst of it. Ditto if you have constipation, try to sort it because that will make bloating worse, as will tight clothes.

Very sorry to say that I haven’t been able to wear jeans in 2 years and the best thing to do for now is get some cute, flattering clothes that can accommodate the bloating. I wear a lot of dresses with tights (maternity tights even) these days xx

bbundey profile image
bbundey in reply to wanwood

Did you get simethicone prescribed by your doctor?

Gutted about the tight clothing but I think you’re right, jeans are a gonner!!

wanwood profile image
wanwood in reply to bbundey

It’s sad isn’t it! 😭

You can get simethicone over the counter under different brand names. It’s also spelled simeticone. Look for wind relief remedies. It was my idea to try it, not medical advice, but a GP of my acquaintance thought the logic was good? The bloating definitely involves some air!

I’ll definitely give that a go, thank you!

Activated charcoal capsules!!! Drink with lots of water and take away from vitamins - I usually take it between meals and/or before bed and find it works best for me. Everybody is different, but they've definitely been helpful for me!

Thank you!! I’ll give them a go! Can you get them from Superdrug and the like?
