Am I overdoing it?

I had major endo excision 7 months ago and about 3 months after I started doing high intensity exercise. I’ve continued to do this as I really enjoy it but I’ve noticed some of my pain is coming back where I had the surgery. Do you think I’m doing too much? Thanks in advance xx

You need ask yourself that! Then perhaps speak to a doctor. I had major surgery and in one instance it took me 6 months. In another instance I was ok after 2 months! And went back to work. So it all depends. Maybe just slow down your exercise?

Thank you for replying. I’m wondering if I’m just being naively optimistic hoping this pain is just because I’m exercising too much. My fear is the endometriosis is back as I’m getting the same pain I had before... I just can’t go through all this again, I’ve been so happy lately... feeling the best I’ve ever felt. I can’t take such a big step back xx

Are you on any post surgery medication to keep it at bay? Zoladex? Or birth control?

No I was on Zoladex just before and a month after surgery. I didn’t want to go

on birth control as we are going to TTC next month and also I’ve been on the pill for 10years and still had a severe form of endometriosis so it did nothing for me really xx

Ahh best of luck with your TTC I would say maybe cut back and see if you still get pain. If it continues then it’s probably worth getting it checking out. You might be overstraining yourself tissue takes time to heal. Surgery does also cause adhesions so that may be the pain you are feeling. Best get it checked out see if you can have ultrasound for peace of mind.

OK so first, we'll done for going back to exercise. It's one of my management techniques for endo and dwlression/anxiety so I know how important it is. However, you have to waste yourself back into it after surgery, whether you've had open surgery or keyhole like a lap, you can't go straight back into high intensity exercise at the level you left it. When I had my first lap 3yrs ago (will be having another larger on this year), my consultant recommended not going back to anything too strenuous for 3wks. I started going for gentle, short walks after a week; swimming and spin class after 3wks; then pump after 6-8wks; I went back to body balance (combo of tai chi, pilates and yoga) last because that's the one that's most intense on the abdo region, Las thing I went back to doing was running.

You have to listen to your body, it'll tell you when you've been doing too much and when it needs to rest. I do totally understand how frustrating it is, but you have to give your body the recovery time it needs. A PT friend of mine explained to me when I had a cold that the energy you use to exercise is the energy your body needs to use to recover, I think it would be the same for recovery from an op/injury as for illness.

I'd suggest taking some time off, seeing if the pain improves, then go back into things slowly. Also go back to your GP and explain what's going on, see what they suggest.

Xxxx

Thank you for all your responses, it’s going to be really hard for me giving the exercise a break as it’s keeping me sane, but if it does some good in the short term then so be it.

I have actually discovered where the soreness/discomfort is eminating from. It’s on the left side of my vagina... not high up luckily which is where my nodule was. But just slightly on the inside to left so god knows what that could be? I do spinning 4 times a week so I wonder if that’s caused some internal aggravation??? Xx

You need to go back to the doctor. My lap caused an incisional/umbilical hernia. It is possible you could have a hernia too, if the incision site has not healed properly.

The important thing is to see the doc and (if s/he recommends it) have a CT scan. You need to find out what is causing the pain before you make any decisions about exercise.

Best of luck. x
