Laparoscopy - unsure?

Hi,

I had my laparoscopy yesterday in the evening, in recovery I asked nurse if anything was found, she said no just that I was constipated. As it was late I didn’t see consultant however consultant did say if nothing was found I would probably only have 1 incision, however I have 2. I didn’t ask nurse on ward whether she could find my notes as I was pretty out of it and wanted to go home ASAP. I have a follow up app in 3 months but could anyone advise me whether anything could of been found on the amount of incisions??

I feel so disappointed that didn’t find endo as I was so sure of it because of my symptoms as weird as it sounds😩

Hi,

What’s your symptoms before the surgery?

Try not to worry, have speedy recovery

Extremely painful periods, pain throughout the month (period pain, pain in lower back and pains in my thighs), pain during sex, occasional bleeding after sex, I also had issues with my bladder before my period, ( would go for a pee and felt like there was still urine in my bladder, would have to go again 5 mins later to empty it can’t remember term for it😩) and issues with spotting etc.

I was so sure of endo because of the symptoms, and I feel like there has to be something to explain it other than just bad periods!!

This is my situation.

I have Adenomyosis.

Have they tested you for this?

Only way to see a diagnosis for this is MRI scan and it doesn’t show up in bloods or ultrasound x

I haven’t thought of that, does it show up on a lap? I spoke to doctor today and they said everything as absolutely normal, to try going down gastro route so sadly back to square 1.

I am so convinced it is gynae because of my symptoms, so I’m going to keep an eye on things. I think because I am so young doctors don’t really listen to my concerns and just put it down to age, but I just can’t live the way I am.

Hi I have also been there with gastro and it was after having a colonoscopy that I got referred to gynae.

I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis before I had a lap so I am really unsure. Maybe someone else on here would know the answer to this?

Feel free to PM if you like, sounds as though our stories are very similar.

It’s not normal all of this pain etc and has to be a medical reason for it x

I had 2 incisions too x

I also had a few ruptured cysts which led to me collapsing and ending up in a&e in the past few months, as well as very irregular periods but this could be down to the pill

Hey, I had 2 incisions and had endo found around my uterus and ovarian cysts. You can always ring the gynae ward and see if they can send you your notes.

Did you get a discharge letter? Mine told me what they found during surgery in like a brief summary but I’m convinced he’s missed some endo or something xx

Jjones4252 profile image
Jjones4252 in reply toprincessk09

My discharge letter didn’t say anything! Gave me general advice after surgery and that I would have a follow up appointment in 3 months!

Would my notes be sent over to gp if I rang the ward or to me??

I did speak to family members who used to work on the gynae ward I was on and they told me that recovery nurses aren’t actually allowed to say what was found, which could be why she said nothing.

and she has a feeling from the 2 incisions and the fact I’m still struggling to pee that something has been removed so I’m hoping it could be the end of all the pain!

In a weird way I have been convinced of endo for so long I have mentally accepted it is that so if it is I can just carry on with my life, so if it isn’t i am going to be really disappointed as it just means more fighting to get to the bottom of things 😩

Thanks xx

Yeah I know the feeling, I was relieved when I got my diagnosis as I knew something was wrong and even my parents called me a drama queen all my teens.

Your notes will be sent your gp however with mine it was a pain in the arse as my doctors are terrible. You can ask to have them sent to you or to your GP I think xx

I had two incisions and they found nothing, I think two incisions is pretty standard for a laparoscopy, my surgeon said pre-op they’d make more incisions if they found some in harder to reach places x

Where both of your incisions best your belly button? As one is near my womb x

One is left of my womb, one is in my bellybutton x

Ah ok,

I am just so sure it is endo, don’t know how I can cope with the pain I am in constantly x

If you know, you know! don’t worry! my lap was a failure, and I go back to the doctors just to be told they think it’s endo and my last doctor is believed to be wrong! keep fighting girl! X

Thanks hun,

I’ve decided to wait for notes and go from there, sadly my consultant wasn’t a specialist and I was none the wiser this was so important. I will definitely keep fighting if my symptoms don’t go away!

Hope you get to the bottom of your issues too🤞🏼 Xxx

Hey, can't really add anything; everyones already been great with their comments!

If you can; book an appointment with your specialist to go through the results of your lap and what to do next. Sometimes specialists don't see you after; mine did at 2 weeks and again at 4 months. If you can't your notes should be sent to your GP, we can help you with understanding them and suggest ideas for whom to go to for advice (eg specialist centers / clinics)

A lap will always be 2 or more incisions; one for the camera and light source and one for the equipment to move stuff around / take stuff out. The camera always has its own one (usually the belly button) so it can be put in certain positions. The equipment is what's moved around and if places are hard to get to then more incisions are made.

Sadly my consultant wasn’t a specialist, just general gyne.

I am just going round and round as I haven’t really been told anything and my follow up appointment is 3 months away and I just can’t wait, so I will chase up ASAP.

Thanks for your advice x

Hello why would it be only 2 incisions?

My consultant told me it would be 3 so if I had one in my belly button and 1 on right side of bikini line, does that mean the left hand side was not checked?

Just my mind thinking now since I have read this post x

If they could see everything with the incisions they had including moving stuff around then they won't need to do additional ones. They try to keep the number to a minimum. usually it's only additional ones for instruments to hold stuff in place while the main one - belly button has the camera to look.

Your three just means they could move stuff around on your left side without having to do an incision there. The instruments are like grabbers and sticks so they can reach quite far.

I was told anywhere from two to five for mine, they did three on one lap (incision on left with removal of endo all over and unsticking of everything) and four on the next (a bit of endo on the bowel, was difficult to get to so needed two incisions left and right just to hold all the stuff).

Thank you so much I understand a bit better now.
