Hi ladies,

I have finally had a date for my total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingoophorectomy. I will be having it on 22nd February.

Has anyone had this and got any tips or hints?

Thanks in advance.

No advice but I am on the list to have the same thing (and a couple of other bits) done too. I have my pre op next week and felt really happy to be getting it done but am now really nervous. I am also keen to hear tips and help. Hope your surgery goes well. Have they given you any idea as to recovery tine?

Hey,

no worries of course I will let you know how it goes and if I have any hints for you for yours.

I am really excited to be honest and I cant wait for it but that is because I currently have no real quality of life due to the pain. Thats even according to my gynae haha.

Ive been told realistically that its 8 weeks before I drive and the same or longer before I can lift. Probably 12 weeks before I can work. Its longer than the 'average' because of what has happened previously. I think normally it is between 6 to 12 weeks for a laparoscopic for full recovery.

Ive been told to remember its major surgery and it is going to take a long time to recover.

If you wanna chat anymore drop me a message. X

Good luck I’ve been waiting for a date since July. I hope it goes well for you & let us all know how it goes. I’m like you I’m really excited to get a new start and just want it done now. Best wishes x

Thanks. Aww I hope you get a date soon. Do you know how long the wait is?

I ended up with my consultant listing me as urgent due to my ever increasing symptoms which I am so thankful for. Still been a nearly 10 week wait by the time I have it.

I will let you know how it goes. X

i was listed as urgent and unfortunately still had to wait 6 months for mine. recovery was hard and it was 12 weeks before i was able to return to work properly. i tried to go back after about 6 or 7 due to pressure from my employer but it made me bad so ended up off again. it was a good twelve months before i felt physically and mentally recovered. be kind to yourself and take each day at a time. sleep when you need to as this helps the healing process and build up your mobility a bit at a time. Dont be hard on yourself if u dont feel well enough just try again tomorrow. drink plenty of water and try to eat well so u dont get constipated. if u do address it sooner rather than later. although it is laparoscopic it is still major surgery due to the work involved. i also had extensive stage 4 endo excised at the same time. good luck x

Hi dawntildusk,

Gosh im sorry to hear your wait was so long. Thats awful. To be honest I have to say my local hospital has done all they can to try to reduce winter pressures this year and keep waits to a minimum.

Thanks for the tips. I have a really supportive workplace who have said take as long as I need and I had already told them 12 weeks at the least as thats what my consultant advised.

When you say it took 12 months to heal physically can I ask what you felt took this long to heal or how you felt? Thanks xx

there is an awful lot of internal healing that takes place and i found the fatigue associated with the recovery of this operation took far longer than my previous laps with excision. it was actually 9 months i waited x

Sorry for delay in replying and I hope everything went well. I was actually off work for 9 months ! Was totally exhausted and emotionally was hard as I went into surgical menopause. The good news is 10 months later I am recovering well and back at work . I am totally pain free after years of constant pain . Minimal scaring . I dabbled with HRT but that made me really really scary depressed ! I then tried boots menopause support tablets and daily walking and my depression lifted and I am starting to feel like my old self . Hope you are recovering well x it took years to make the decision but I can truly say it was the best thing I have done .

Thanks for the information. Yeah I am recovering ok. I spent a lot longer in hospital than expected as I was in 4 nights. Its still very earlier days for me though so just taking it all at my bodys pace. Xxxx
