Mirena coil pain : Hi I'm Lynne new to this... - Endometriosis UK
Mirena coil pain
Hi Lynne, welcome to this support group! I had a Mirena coil fitted last Wednesday and experienced severe cramping (my insertion was slightly traumatic!) for a couple of days, followed by mild cramping and now just the odd twinge/bloated period feeling. My pain was slightly more localised on the right hand side, as I have a multi-follicular right ovary, perhaps you have something similar, or have had cysts in the past?
Did the doctor reassure you that the insertion went ok? They didn’t mention anything about a tilted womb etc?
I would just see how you get on over the next few days, take it as easy as you can while you’re body’s adjusting and if it doesn’t improve see your doctor or ring the clinic which did the insertion and explain the urgency.
I hope this helps in some way x
I think GPs want to fit coils and issue the pill to help with endo because it is a cheaper option. It takes about 6 weeks for everything to settle down. I am 36 now and have learned so many tough lessons over the years regarding endo management. Need to find a good gynaecologist who really understands endo. Some of them say they do but they don’t. You are in enough pain and then the added pain of a coil is common and sad and there is little advice available out there only that the hormone progesterone supresses any endo growth but once the coil is removed it will all come back. The affect of Hormones are still not very well understood but we know that the release of progesterone can help endo symptoms. A drug called
Dienogest is a good option for endo/adenomyosis management and can be prescribed in the U.K. but it is not available in the U.K. only in Spain and some other countries in Europe. It is the one drug that has really been tested. Spain are far ahead with endo management and hold massive conferences each year on it. They had one in the summer in Barcelona with many key note speakers and surgeons so it shows the amount of women who suffer from it world wide. I am not sure why Dienogest (Vissaine) isn’t available in the UK....It is probably the cost but taking the tablet each day is easier. Good luck
Go get it checked out. Just as a precaution. It could have moved or flipped. That happened to me. It was very painful and a blood vessel burst and there was visible bruising. The bruising was round, about the size of a 50 cent piece. Not trying to worry you more but it should be looked at.
