Mirena the drug one? If it's different to what you're normally like then most definitely is the coil. You know your body better than anyone else. It's a case of weighing out the pros and cons - like are the side effects worth it ? I've been on every pill in existence (No joke) and all of them just messed me up one way or another. I'm already a hormonal mofo so when I went on them I just turned into a witch - didn't realise until I would come off !

There's a copper coil and hormonal one. I had copper = horrid

Hi I have had some bleeding for nearly 12months now, mood swings and irritable. I have back pain with my endo and adenoyosis and this hasn't changed with the mirena. I am also very weepy. But my pain is so much better not sure what to do x

This might sound silly but what is an endo😂 That's a long time to bleed the mirena coil is meant to stop periods x

in reply to Jazsmith-x

endometriosis and sometimes it doesn't stop your periods.

Well it's suppose to calm them down or stop them that's what the mirena one does it's the hormonal one

I know I am have the Mirena but it doesn't always work if you have other gynae problems. So it hasn't helped in my case and I am still bleeding. My consultant said it may not help in my case. I know other people and it also hasn't helped. Thanks

Dear Jazmith, I've just searched on the internet for medical opinions on mirena coil and I have found that even if you have the coil you can still fall pregnant and have an early abortion without knowing it. Here is the exact quotation : " If fertilization occurs, most likely the tiny unborn child will be prevented from attaching to the lining of the womb and he or she will die. This is a very early abortion." The larger excerpt is " The IUD or intrauterine device is available in two different types in America. The hormonal IUD called Mirena, and the copper IUD called Paragard. Mirena releases levonorgestrel, which is a progestogen. Its primary function is to prevent implantation by the tiny developing human (embryo).

Preventing ovulation appears to function as a distant second. A study of women, one year after inserting the IUD, showed about one-half (45%) of women were still ovulating. After four years, 75% of women were ovulating. Obviously, the greater the number of women ovulating means the higher the chance for fertilization to occur. Other mechanisms of Mirena include thickening the mucus of the cervix, thus not allowing sperm to enter the uterus, or affecting the mobility or survival of sperm. If fertilization occurs, most likely the tiny unborn child will be prevented from attaching to the lining of the womb and he or she will die. This is a very early abortion."

Now that you know, it's up to you.

Take care!

I had mirena coil fitted October 2016. I bleed for about 8 weeks after fitting. I still have periods. They are lighter than before but I still experience as much pain. I have continual lower back/sciatic pain and this gets much worse with my period. I am waiting to see a different gynae, as I am undiagnosed as yet, so want to push for a lap to find out for sure. I have gained weight since having the coil and this is so depressing. I am constantly tired I have break outs with my cycle, and this is something I never had before.

I am seriously thinking of getting mine removed!
