Hi all. An update from me...after 15yrs I’d struggling with sever endo and IC the decision was made for a total hysterectomy. Cervix, uterus, both tubes and both ovaries all being removed.
My surgery is next Wednesday and I’m starting to really panic.
I’ve just had my pre-op appointment with my consultant and although he had reassuring answers to all my questions, I’m still terrified.
I’ve been on a nasal spray to stop my ovaries and HRT patches for a few weeks now and he’s decided to change my HRT after surgery because he doesn’t think this current one is right for me...
Has anyone out there recently had a total hysterectomy - how are you recovering? Is it as bad as my mind imagining??
It’s been a long road with lots of treatment and operations to get here and I’m hopeful things will be better after I’ve got through this - the decision was only made 3 weeks ago so things are moving fast...any advice would be hugely appreciated

You will be fine. I was surprised at how good I felt during the recovery stages. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing it. There is a good site hystersisters which has useful advice (though more US) and the hysterectomy network Xxx
Hello, I am day 5 from a total hysterectomy. I’m not going to lie the pain was unbearable after the surgery as the pain relief was not controlled. Today I feel fine and haven’t yet needed any painkillers....to be honest the thought I having to rest and not do anything for the next 5 and half weeks...sends me stir crazy! All I would say is ensure that you have a post op care plan in place with pain relief...or it could be a tuff few hours!
After years of suffering with endo I had my hysterectomy 3 years ago....total hysterectomy so straight into menopause at 45. Also had surgery on bladder where the endo also caused pain.
Took six weeks to recover from surgery but please be assured if your goes as well as mine my life has changed so much and have not had ANY pain since!
A life changer...so happy the hospital agreed to the op....and my menopause symptoms are few and far between with the help of HRT patches.
