Hi,

I saw a gynae oncologist today regarding a 4.5cm complex cyst and he has scheduled me to have both ovaries and tubes removed. I have a history of stage 3 endo and an elevate CA-125. He is hoping to do this laparoscopically but may have to open me up depending g on what he finds!

THIS.IS.BULLSHIT. A friend of mine recently removed a 10-cm cyst on one of her ovaties in one of the best endo centers in my country (Italy) and they saved her ovary. If they cannot save your ovaries it's because they are not good enough surgeons. Find another endo center ASAP!!

hi. Hope you're having a pain free day. Where are you based? I had a 10cm and rwo smaller chocolate cysts on my right ovary and and small ones on my left. My local hospital said I would need a hysterectomy but due to ca125 of 2146 I was referred to a women's hospital and they were amazing. The high levels were due to cysts and the server endometriosis. The surgeon was brilliant and he removed all the cysts, rebuilt my right ovary and removed the endometriosis and sorted the full frozen pelvis. We are just about to embark on ivf which if it wasn't for the ca125 and the referral we probably would have just gone along with the local hospital and had the hysterectomy. The surgeon said it's his normal, he specialises in endometriosis and normal gynaecologists don't always have the right skills to treat things successfully. If you can get a second opinion with a specialist if you want to keep your ovaries ( you don't mention age or if you have plans for a family). Xx

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I am 46 and I have 3 kids so I don’t plan on having any more babies.

The complex cyst showed up on a CT scan on 21st Sep. I was referred to a gynecologist oncologist.

He if going to try and do the surgery by laparoscopy but does that mean that he won’t be able to have a really good look around the pelvis. I hoping that he will treat any endometriosis while he is in there. My twin had both ovaries and tubes removed by the same surgeon due to severe endo but some ovarian tissue that was left behind re-grew and she had a period 12 weeks after surgery. Ovarian remenant syndrome!

Should I ask him to remove the womb too in case this happens to me. If there is any risk of this being cancer I would prefer to get them removed.

hi. Hope you're doing ok. My surgeon had said it's easier treating endometriosis with keyhole surgery ( less messy) so they get a good view. My first surgery was complicated and I had to have open surgery and they missed the extent of the endometriosis. I'm not really sure having a hysterectomy stops endometriosis, I've got it on my bladder / bowel and he said even with the treatment they have done it's always going to be around. With such a large cyst I think you can / should be seen by an Endo specialist at a bsge centre. Xx
