Mefenamic acid & tranexamic acid have made a HUGE difference to my periods 😁

Hi ladies,

I have endometriosis left all over my rectum and currently TTC and awaiting another laparoscopy ( with an endo specialist)

My periods are pretty horrendous ; so heavy and ridiculously painful. Obviously with TTC I’m restricted what I can take.

This is the first time using both medicines and the pain has eased ; I had some strong pain and was gushing tmi 🙈 when I woke up but after taking these wow manageable period! 😁 definitely recommend this other ladies struggling with their periods 😘 xoxo

How did you know it was on your rectum? Was it found or did you have symptoms?

in reply toKimPV

I have had two laps already; first time it was was on pod and tiny bit left on rectum, second lap it was on pod and all over my rectum as it was just a gynae so I was referred by my fertility specialist to an endometriosis specialist. I also have bowel issues caused by it. xoxo

Thanks for that. I have a consistent itchy , sore and bloody butt (tmi) wondered if it could be linked x

Is it thrush?

I get thrush every month just before and during my period it starts in my butt 🙈 and then spreads to my lady parts 🙈 the endometriosis nurse says I need to get my GP to take a swab; I went to see my GP and discussed my period issues and mentioned the recurring thrush 🙈 but it got over looked. I have brought a few packets of thrush pessaries to see if that makes a difference; if not I’m back to the GP!

Have you spoken to your GP over this? I think you should. xoxo

Ages ago I mentioned it. He gave me some cream, but it didn’t do anythbig to help.

I just use sudocream now. Maybe I should mention it next week? I have an appointment with a gyny

I would I know it’s embarrassing ! If I can’t clear my thrush this month and it comes back I’m seeing a GP again! xoxo

When I was taking mefenamic acid my periods were amazing. No pain, light bleeding for three days. Honestly wish I was still on it because with the coil (that was meant to stop my periods) my periods are an actual nightmare again, 7/8 with cramping (though not as bad as what they used to be). So glad it's working for you too!

Thank you. It is amazing it’s transformed my periods! 😁

Can you not take it with the coil then? Shame if it helped your periods so much! xoxo

in reply to

To be honest my gyn didn't talk about it after I got my coil fitted and I pretty much assumed I didn't need to take it anymore - the aim of my coil was to stop my periods and stop my endo growing... So much for that! I miss my three day periods with no pain 😡 something I need to ask about really as fed up with my coil after nearly 7 months, two of which were solid bleeding!

That sounds awful you poor thing. Have they checked your iron because it can’t be good to have bleeding for that length of time.

Are you due to see your gynae soon? If not can’t you state your concerns and ask to go back on mefenamic acid?

Endo can be berelentless feel your frustration; mine grew back within such a short space of time very frustrating when I’m trying to conceive🤦🏽‍♀️ xoxo

Yeah it was pretty rubbish... through most of Christmas too which was a nightmare. Trying to recover from my lap plus constant bleeding wasn't fun at all. They didn't check my iron no but my bleeding stopped in January and I'm back to more of a normal cycle so doubt it's a problem honestly...

I'm not due to see my gynae again... after prescribing me something to take to stop the bleeding for a bit to get back onto a normal cycle she just kind of ushered me out of her office with a "hope everything goes well" almost as if I hadn't just been diagnosed with a chronic health condition! I would go back and see her but she works the most awkward hours (private but she works one morning a week from 10-12) which is a nightmare as I'm a full time college student about to take my a levels! Will probably look into doing something once my exams are all over

I'm really hoping mine doesn't grow back any time soon - had it treated in my lap but it was ablated not excised.... I'm stage 1 so not the end of the world but really don't want more surgery soon. Still in college and planning on Uni so not TTC and kids aren't really on my agenda anyway (i want a hysterectomy as soon as I can, really) but I understand how frustrating it can be when TTC. Wish you the best of luck with it xxx

Glad you're having pain relief with these. I also used tranexamic acid and it reduced my bleeding by at least half.

My GP took me off mefenamic acid as I was TTC. Be aware that it's an anti-inflammatory and can inhibit ovulation. Saying that, the stress of dealing with endo pain and all the other symptoms can also make TTC difficult, so whatever helps.

Good luck. X

Thank you ; I literally only take mefenamic acid and tranexamic acid on my period once it’s full flow and I know I’m 💯 not pregnant! My endo pain is at its worse during my period. xoxo
