New to Endo, should I go private?

Hi All,

I am new to all this and have just recently found out I may have Endo. I was told I had a cyst in last year which is what started investigations.

Anyway, after seeing my doctor in January I still don't have an apt to see a Gyne until 5th June, a month away now. I just really want answers and to know I can get this investigated and sorted.

I haven't had huge pain but a dragging pain and it's get worse month by month. My body feels exhausted a lot and I am just not the same person as I was 2 -3 years ago. I suspect things started about 4 years ago as I visited the doctor quite a few times saying something didn't feel right - but was brushed off. I guess as not major pain.

Now I feel like everything down there feels swollen and dragging pre-post period and probably only have a week of feeling normal.

I feel down to be honest because I don't feel like anyone really cares or is listening to my concerns. So, I wondered if I should go private, and is I did what the cost associated are.

I have endometriosis and only just been told after years of pain I now how u feel that the doctors don't listen or brush it off I also feel fatigue most days and in pain and still now clorher to help my first gynecologist is middle if may

The fatigue I think is my main symptom other than feeling bloated and "not quite right" in my abdomen. I was so relieved and surprised this is so associated with Endo as on main NHS site etc its not mentioned.

When I mentioned this and hormonal emotions my doctor didn't seem to sympathise or relate. I have suffered a lot with anxiety in the past, feeling pure panic sometimes. This is probably all related which is crazy!! A relief and not all at the same time.

A useful tool for finding an endometriosis specialist in your area is the by looking on the British Society for

Gynaecological Endoscopy website. You can try and find a doctor in your area that has an interest in

endometriosis by having a look on bsge.org.uk and going to the ‘Endometriosis Treatment Centres’ link. Here you can search for accredited endometriosis treatment centres.

It is worth paying for a private consultation - you'll be seen within a week - with an endo specialist (I think they're called BSGE centres or something where they perform surgery). I have been waiting a similar length of time to you, I had a private consultation last September which saved me 3 months (cost about £200) and was put on nhs list, however, I am still waiting and my quality of life is not great so I'm doing the op private too (at great cost - around 5/6k as I have to get the cyst removed which isn't a standard lap) xx

Thanks for the advice! It is definitely a slow process with the NHS. I must say, the investment for good health is above all else though isn't it. What is money if you are too worried/in pain to enjoy it. I am exploring private as we speak. Hope all goes well with you. Sorry to hear quality of life is compromised. Fingers and toes crossed the surgery will make things a lot better. Wishing you the best xx
