Working in the nhs and endo - advice needed please!

Hi everyone, I hope your Tuesday is going well!

I’m in desperate need of advice please ladies! Because of my endo (and a bad bout of flu), my sickness record in my job has been horrendous. I was sent a letter back in February about being placed on stage 2 sickness monitoring but the meeting never happened as my manager wanted occupational health input (which still hasn’t happened).

Last week I had my coil removed to see if it helps my pain but it’s made it worse and I will need to undergo further surgery. I don’t know whether it would be better for me to go back to work and wait for a surgery date or wait it out and be on long term sickness again.

I’m really struggling because I love my job as a nurse but I’m scared I’m going to lose it with how my sickness continues. Has anyone else been in this situation?

Thank you lovely’s.

Gemma

I’m currently a student nurse and I’m worrying about how much time I’ve been taking off so I know how you feel. It can be horrible aswell going to work/Placement because I always know I’m going to be in agony after it because of the long stressful day x

Hello, sorry I’m not able to offer much advice but I’m in the same boat working in the NHS and struggling bad with my attendance to which I’m on part time hours for! Try not focus on the negative which I know is easier said than done but you have a genuine condition and they cannot fire you for your attendance! Xx

Yes!!!

I am also a nurse and I've been placed on a stage 2.

I was also in a similar situation to yourself, in that I was off sick long term but I felt guilty whilst having my 'good day's. But I had no alternative other than to resume.

I've not been formally diagnosed as yet, but the GP is convinced it's endometriosis. I'm seeing a gyneacholigist next week (at my own trust!)

My current problem is that, my wage went down to half - without any warning! I have since been informed that my wage will drop to zero if I have any further episodes of sickness.

I'm anticipating that I will need a laparoscopy and therefore, further sickness. I really don't know what I'm going to do.

My manager has been really supportive and has suggested that I seek advice from my union.

What infuriates me, is that I had worked for this Trust for 13 years - but recently had a break in service. Hence why I had this drop in wage, due to the new ruling.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the rant. But it's reassuring that someone else is going through a similar situation.

If your wage is unaffected, then if I were you I'd stay off as you'll trigger again. Is your manager supportive at all?

Keep us informed how you get on. X
