Burning/ache pain left abdomen outside period

Hi ladies,

I have a history of Endo, diagnosed 3 years ago but had bad pain since 11 when period started. Recently I have started getting pain in my lower left abdomen that is pretty much constant. It’s present throughout most of the day and feels like a burning ache. Does anyone else get this? Could it be Endo? This pain does not feel like the pain I get with my periods, I would say it’s definitely less severe but nothing seems to alleviate the pain including codeine and strong pain killers. During my period I take the pain killers which take away my period pain but I can still feel that burning pain in the left. I’ve had CT scans and ultrasounds, blood tests etc and my doctors are stumped. I have a history of chronic constipation so the doctors initially thought it was that, but the GI specialist thinks it’s unrelated to my bowels. Any ideas?

Well endo is a crazy disease and seems to be able to imitate anything it wants to. It could also be a trapped nerve in your back referring pain to your side. Endo pain tends to fluctuate and not be constant . But never say never. Have you had a pelvic ultrasound to see your ovaries? It’s so awful having a wierd symptom and worrying about it and no one being able to help you. That does seem to be a hallmark feature of endo.

Hey penelopeel,

Yeah that’s what I thought - doesn’t seem to fluctuate with periods. Also what’s strange is that when I have my usual terrible period pain, I take the strong pain killers with codeine which will eventually take away the period pain, but I can still feel that burning pain in the side. No pain killers seem to work for it so I don’t really get a break from it. I’m worried this is neuralgia or as you suggested, nerve entrapment or something difficult to treat - just like all my other ailments! Lucky me! Haha thanks for your reply xx
