I have a Mirena coil fitted 3 days ago to try and control my periods. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in March 2017 and had the disease removed from my bowl and pouch in Douglas in Oct 2017!
I understand the coil isn’t pleasant and will cause cramps but I’v been in agony ever since i had it done, to the point 1 evening I nearly passed out! My stomach is swollen and hard and i was in less pain when I had endo! Have any of you lady’s had the same thing and I’m just overreacting?? Am I wasting the doctors time if I go see them?
Any advise appreciated

Hello. I had lap and mirena fitted in October. I’m not going to lie I am still struggling and in pain with it. My periods are less painful but the cramps and pain in between cycles has appeared and almost worse!! My gyne wants me to stick with it as mirena is said to be one of the best treatments. Your body tried to reject it almost as if you are having contractions and my gp said the pain can be similar to that of a miscarriage! So you’re not over reacting. Hopefully yours won’t take aslong to settle down, but they do say 4-6 months for mirena to settle. Good luck and stay strong x x x
Hi, it can be painful at first. Normally this is just your body trying to expel the new object and it settles down. But it is also possible to pick up an internal infection, so if you get a temperature or feel unwell in that way, then definitely see a doctor.
I have endo and had the coil. It was fitted the middle of April and I bled solid and heavy till August. I still had horrific pain and even after the initial heavy bleeding stopped i bled all the time, some times spotting some times heavy!! This carried on till I had a total hysterectomy !!!
I didn't get on with it and had to have it removed. Constant cramps like my body was trying to reject it. I had a copper coil pre children and that was fine.
Go back to the GP and get it removed if it's not for you. They try to persuade you to keep it as they are pretty expensive gizmos!
I’m now on my second coil as i had the first taken out due to pain, I managed to keep with it for two months but once I saw my gyno he said it should not cause the pain I was in and could be in wrong position etc and took it out. I’ve just had another one refitted so hoping for a better result! Fingers crossed it settles down for you x
Hi I’m still under investigation as to whether I have endometriosis, but at my first appointment in October 17 I was advised to have the Mirena coil fitted, but from day one I experienced pain & bleeding that would not settle, even had a fever & felt faint all the time. I took the decision to have it removed as my body obviously didn’t like it, it’s not for everyone as I was told & my next review is tomorrow so hopefully going to get a laparoscopy to see if I have Endometriosis, I’ve got cysts on both ovaries & blood in one of them so that could be causing my symptoms. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
