Hi,

I’m having a laparoscopy on Wednesday for the first time and am getting worried about what to wear afterwards. I have a general idea with clothes but underwear I don’t have a clue what style/height etc will be best.

Any advice is greatly appreciated xx

Hello!

I was fine with my normal pants/knickers. The bigger pants I had bought especially were useless as one of my incisions was just about my oubic hair and there were two on my hip bones and another in my belly button... So big pants were a no go. Just usual bikini style knickers is what I wore. I had some pjama shorts which were a size too big which were so comfy. Nighties as well instead of wearing any bottoms at all was fun - freeeeeeeeedom!!

Best of luck for your op! Xxx

Clothing wise I was just in jammies for the first few days then leggings and baggy tops but was into my skinny jeans within about ten days or so? I'm still on a lot of pain killers but four weeks post op can wear anything I could wear before as swelling has gone down. Xx

Lucky you! I’d say it was around a month before I could get my skinny jeans back on!

I agree about the nightie... I was rocking the nightie with the green anti-thrombosis stockings look for quite a few days afterward!

I myself bloated up hugely and needed to go up a size to be comfortable and chose ones with lace rather than an elastic edging as it was less pinchy. I use low rise shorts which ran below the worst of my bloat.

I still can't wear tights or suspender so maybe worth getting some good holdups.

I wore my normal m and s undies, I think mine are a “mini”. I have seen ladies on here talking about wearing high waisted knickers but to be honest I would have found those uncomfortable. Mine sit just above my pubic line which was just below my two lower incisions. It wasn’t an issue at all.

I bought a load of high waisted pants and they cut into my bloat something shocking so I ended up rolling them all down! Lived in my pyjamas for about 3 weeks afterwards and only just now getting back into jeans for work! x

I wore my normal underwear, which are low waisted and fell below the incisions. I wouldn't stress too much about needing to buy clothing. If you normally wear higher waisted underwear and the elastic would fall on your incisions, I would guess that temporarily rolling them down would work.

I wore just my normal underwear - I had some older pants that I usually saved for periods, which were a bit looser and sat down low on my hips (I had a cut right above my pubic hair that I didn't want to touch.) Failing that, pjs and trackies xx

Agree with all the ladies above - I had my lap and hysteroscopy a week ago today and the bikini style pants are the best as they are lower than the incisions. I ordered a pair of loose pyjamas in a bigger size which have been useful but as the girls say, a not so sexy nightie has been my godsend as no cutting into large basketball stomach! It’s worth getting a couple of things as will make your life easier. This time of year is trickier I think as when we had to go back to hospital unexpectedly I had to wear a jumper dress with leggings rolled down below waist! 😂. Hoping the swelling will reduce soon. Good luck.

Thank you everyone, was worried as most of my stuff is high waisted and wasn't sure if it would cause an issue. Unfortunately, my lap was cancelled at the last minute due to problems with the theatre, which is frustrating but I understand and at least it gives me more time to prepare xx
