Hi ladies I’ve been having endo symptoms for years now but I’ve finally got an appointment tmz morning with a gyno through nhs and I’ve just heard from a second source that she couldn’t get the laparoscopy treatment through nhs, she had to pay to go private cause the nhs don’t want to pay for operations all your life....is this true and if so what advice can u give for what I say to ensure I get given a laparoscopy to finally have a diagnosis through nhs or am I wasting my time?

Thank you

Not at all.

Firstly you will need a laparoscopy to confirm a diagnosis of endometriosis.

Once you know if you’ve got it they will look at ways to manage it for you.

Depending on what your plans are - if you want to start a family they will be treat the endo. Otherwise they’ll look at hormonal treatment to ease the symptoms.

Sometimes tho it can re grow after a laparoscopy - it’s not curable condition.

My laparoscopy was done last year by my fertility doctor and although he did a good job my endo symptoms have returned since my miscarriage , so I am awaiting more surgery.

I’d advise to write all your symptoms down and questions you have for your gynae.

Good luck with your appointment I hope it goes well 😊 xoxo

Thank you Jess

I have had ivf 2 years ago been trying for family for 5 years and I’ve had horrific periods all my life. I’m just concerned the nhs won’t give me a laparoscopy so I can know for definite if I’ve got endo

Fingers crossed x

No, you have a right to have the surgery if endo is suspected as it is the only way to diagnose it. You can always ask for a second opinion and see a different specialist if you feel like you are not being taken seriously. When you see the gynae you need to make sure you are really clear about all your symptoms, be specific and don't play it down. I find it helpful to write everything down and read it off my phone so I don't forget anything. Also be clear about how long you have had the symptoms etc and make it clear that you are really in a desperate situation basically! A laparoscopy is a pretty straightforward procedure and even if you have to wait a while for it you should not have too much difficulty being referred for one. Also remember it's your health so you get to decide what treatment you have from the options - don't feel like you have to accept any hormonal treatment etc. If you feel like you want a proper diagnosis first - which makes perfect sense in my eyes! You are your own advocate so keep pushing for what you need :)

Omg I got my operation appointment went well - six month wait but so happy 😊 the guy couldn’t understand why I had t had it before IVF considering my symptoms

Fantastic!

I know lovely - I’m so angry that women aren’t fully investigated prior to treatment 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

I had gynae issues for 4 years and been ttc 6 years” unexplained “ till I was diagnosed with endo 😡

You can always ask to go on a cancellation list for the surgery xoxo 😘
