Hi, sorry if this is a bit crude but has anyone else suffered with bleeding when having bowel movements. I have always experienced a lot of pain in this area but this month has been particularly bad and I have had quite a lot of blood in my stools. I went to my gp and they fobbed me off saying it was probably just piles but I really don’t think that this is the case- I am really quite concerned about the amount of blood and the pain and wondered if anyone else had experienced this? Thanks in advance.

Apologies well in advanced if this is way too TMI! Your GP could easily tell you if you actually had piles and therefore disprove him/put your mind at rest by performing a rectal exam! If it comes back that you do have piles your GP should talk to you about treatment to help ease your pain and discomfort. If that exam comes back clear and you’re haemorrhoid free he should refer you back to your gynaecologist if he then believes it’s endo related or to a gastroenterologist if he believes you may have issues with your bowels outside of endo, sorry this isn’t too helpful, but I’d go back and see your doctor, and if he does perform a rectal exam, from experience after being told I had piles (I don’t) it’s really not that bad, over before you know it, I would make notes on your phone or in a diary about what you’ve eaten, when you’ve passed a bowel movement e.g time, type of bowel movement and if there was blood and if so how much, this could just help give them a little bit of insight into how horrid it actually is for you and how frequently it’s happening, it could also suggest what might be triggering the bleeding, it may be a long shot but your diet could be impacting your bowel movements if they’re very hard stools and therefore painful to pass it could be causing bleeding, I hope it’s not anything serious but I think you should go back to your GP just to put your mind at rest xx
Thank you for your reply and advice. I think I will go back to docs as I don’t think it’s right. I haven’t even been constipated and stools are soft, it’s just extremely painful to pass them. I am sure it must be endo related as this all happens at the time of my period and I always get the pain, it’s the blood that’s worrying me. I had an mri in September and it did not show any endonon the bowel but I am still waiting for a follow up appointment with consultant and I am guessing it could of spread there since the mri in any case as it’s been so long and my symptoms do seem to be getting worse every month. Think I will keep the diary, that’s a good idea. Thanks again. 😊
