I am having surgery tomo and was told to take a citrameg sachet at 6pm today... it's now 2130 and nothing has happened ? I've followed the instructions as I was told... does it normally take this long ? Thanks for reading x

Have you drank enough fluid? I know for me that stuff like that only works if I get plenty of fluid. Also It'll be fine, just mention it to them tomorrow if nothing happens over night. My mum had a colonoscopy several months back and took enough stuff to make normal people do a whole week of loo sitting but it did nothing for her and it was fine.

It may or it may not. I know when I had my bowel shaved first time round the bowel prep worked lovely, second time round it didn't do anything but I still had surgery done. Just mention it tomorrow and see what they say but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I have had 4 incomplete colonscopys. As my bowel will not clean out properly. With anything they gave me. I have problems emptying anyway. Its usually only emptys when I am backed up to busting every week. If I'm lucky twice a week. I had a special type of Colon CT scsn instead. When I was 26yrs they removed part of the bowel, its very bedded diwn, scarred, ridged and they won't operate anymore unless my bowel, bladder will be removed.

Ah that's just typical, isn't it haha. It's extra stress that you don't need right now. It might start working soon. But if not, I'm sure the doctors are used to cases where it hasn't worked.

I hope all goes well :)

I'm gonna be a TMI on this but.... Don't risk tooting after they've played with your bowels 😳 also I recommend peppermint tea and a hot water bottle, also take it easy for as long as you can.

Update for anyone in my position in the future... 5am (11 hours from taking) it's started!!!

Try using a suppository or a fleet enima to get things started.

You may want to call your surgeon or emergency contact to see what else you can take before your surgery

Best Wishes

When I had a colonoscopy just after Xmas, I was up all the night before, and we had to stop twice at WCs on the drive to the hospital. I guess you will be in, or post- procedure. now, so I hope all went well.

Take care.

Try to relax, it will be fine, they are used to anything and everything, and it is good to know what's what.

Thinking of you,
