My sister has just been diagnosed with endometriosis after an operation to remove an ovarian cyst.
I experience awful periods and am currently under the gynaecology department of my hospital. I am due to have an ablation next week for very heavy periods and I am still not too sure if it's what I really want done.
However, now that my sister has just been diagnosed with endo I wonder if I should mention this to my gynaecologist before I go for my procedure.
Does anyone know if it does run in families? Thanks

Yes it does. I didn't find out until after I was diagnosed but it is all through my mother's family and several relatives have had early hysterectomies.
My mum wasn't diagnosed with endometriosis but when she had a hysterectomy several years back, they didn't realise that her ovary was stuck somewhere so she almost bled to death and had to have a blood transfusion.
Yes it can, I was diagnosed 7.5 years ago when I had a hysterectomy. My sister had minor endo on 1 ovary when she had her hysterectomy a few years back.
