Surgery without medication

Had moderate to severe endometriosis and surgery 4 years ago followed by 3-months of prostap-3. It was an awful time especially the time on medication. Now we think it is back and surgeon going to recommend medication again. Has anyone had just surgery and no medication after?

I've done surgery with no medication, part from 1.5 years on the mirena coil and one prostap injection but mainly 7 years with no meds.

The side effects from pros tap were bad and the coil did not suit me at all. From reading other posts it looks like this is for the long haul.

I think our doctors like us to at least try medication after surgery to attempt to prevent reoccurrence or reduce the risk of reoccurrence xxx

After my last surgery I wasn't on medication (other than heavy duty painkillers). My first period came days after surgery and it was shockingly horrific. I think everyone is going to be different and it depends on how much they need to remove etc. These are just my thoughts but after that experience I would definitely take meds for the first few months post-surgery in the hope it would prevent periods while I was healing. In my mind, I'd had extensive surgery on a number of organs and they would be raw. Then with my period, Endo would be flying around and attaching to those raw wounds. Like pouring salt on an open wound. If they could 100% guarantee (cue laughter) all Endo had been removed then yes, I would consider no meds but as that's quite impossible I would in future hope to avoid periods during healing time. Have a chat to your consultant about it and others on here. It's all so complicated but if you can find others who have about the same level of Endo affecting the same organs as you it might be helpful to hear their thoughts and experience. So difficult I know as they won't know the extent of it until the have a look inside. Good luck! Xx

Thanks for sharing your experience. Last time is was on my bladder, colon, covering right ovary, in the opening of cervix and one other place. Although I had awful side effects I did not have the bleeding so soon after surgery so maybe that was due to the medication. The migraines I had were horrendous and then the hot sweats at night etc. I just felt I could not be myself or a good mum in that time. 😟 I meet with my consultant again next week to finalise the details so thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the response. My gynaecologist has suggested monthly prostap instead of 3-monthly. Hopefully it will be ok x
