I'm having an oophorectomy. Will I have to stay in or do they do something like this as a day op?

Are you also having excision at the same time and are you with a BSGE centre? I was offered this as a possibility but have chosen the excision path instead.

I've already had excision before that hasn't worked. But yes they'll do it at same time.

I had the impression that it would be an over nighter but it really depends on your hospital, how they are doing it, what else they are doing, as procedures vary. I'd get in touch and ask for more information. It's something they should be talking a lot to you about so you understand both risks and benefits as it is an irreversible procesdure and you need to give informed consent. Also if you are settled in your decision do think ahead about your hrt options and how to handle the surgically induced menopause. This is a leaflet from derby NHS.
