I'm having my first laparoscopy and something else but not even going to try spell that lol.
Iv never had any operation so I'm very nervous. Iv been told I might have to stay in? Is that a massive chance I'll have to stay for the night after the operation?

Hi. I had my first one about 5 weeks ago. I didn't stay in hospital over night. I had to be there at half 7 in the morning and I got checked over and a lot of people came to see me to ask me questions, I then went to theatre about 9 and came out about 11. I slept for ages after the procedure and then my dr came to talk to me about what happened. I went home about half 6. They like you to eat, drink and go to the toilet before you can go home. I think it depends on what they do as to if you need to stay but I did take a bag with me just in case with a few things. The nurses were all so lovely and helpful. I had my Lap on the 14th which was also my first operation and first time I've ever really been in hospital bar the odd X-ray at A&E when I've hurt my ankle.
They normally say there maybe a chance of staying in as obviously they don't know how you're going to react to the General anaesthetic (don't worry, some people feel sick when they come round , I woke up crying for no reason but felt absolutely fine and stopped crying almost immediately, my sister woke up laughing hysterically..the weirdo! Lol) and they won't send you home until you go for a wee, most people don't have a problem but sometimes it can just take a little while so obviously if you don't have you're op until later in the day you might have to end up staying while you're bladder gets itself into gear! lol ( warned the pee does sting a bit which they failed to mention to me but afterwards told me it was completely normal lol)
Honestly it's really not that bad, to put it in perspective, i arrived at the hospital at 12, went down for my Lap at 4pm, it was a diagnostic op but they found some endo and treated it, and I was back home by 7pm the same day.
I was most nervous about the going to sleep with the anaesthetic as I was worried about how it would feel, but I had the most amazing anaesthetist team, they were so lovely. I remember them saying they were giving me the drug, next thing you know I'm waking up in recovery!
All the staff I dealt with were lovely and kind and caring. I was in a bit of pain when I came round, as would be expected, not excruciating but told the nurse and she gave me some pain killers very quickly, they were keen to help me get moving etc but at the same time didn't rush me at all.
You'll be absolutely fine I'm sure, but don't be afraid to ask questions! The anaethatist laughed as I was asking so many questions about what the machines where and which drugs they were using etc as I enjoy that kind of thing and find knowing everything helps me stay a bit calmer.

Hello!! I'm glad your procedure went well. My daughter is only 10 years old (11 on the 21st) but she is showing signs of endometriosis. She is bleeding from the rectum during her cycle & I'm very concerned. Being that she's so young she has no gynecologist, only our family doctor, so I'll be bringing her to the ER today. I don't know what to expect but I'm assuming they'll want to do a lapyryscopy. I'm just so worried... Sorry for rambling on!! I just found this site & it's great to see how supportive you all are of one another. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey I haven't had my procedure yet, mine next week Wednesday (14th) I was about 10 when I started showing signs of endometriosis, but my doctor for years was diagnosing me for bladder and kidney infection, after six's years of the same diagnosis, I saw a different GP where she told me all of my urine tests were all clear. So I was taking antibiotics for no reason and my doctor was just crap...for obvious reason I no longer see my original.
I'm 19 now, and Iv been off work for 8months. and having my first laparoscopy and cystoscopy next week.
In the past 8years Iv sort of learned what helps and what don't, heat helps a lot, if it were for heat pads and hot water bottles I wouldn't be able to move. (The heat pads in the pound shop are amazing, last for 8hours like it says and are very warm. Unlike the branded one)

Hi. As others have said it's down to individual circumstance and how you react to anaesthetic. I had my third lap three weeks ago and did have to stay in overnight as I was in so much pain, and went into urine retention. My three laps have all been totally different experiences but the staff have always been fantastic, helpful and reassuring. If you are nervous, tell them and they will do all they can to make sure you feel comfortable and reassured. Like others have said you need to eat, drink, and pee before being allowed home. This time I knew there'd be a chance I'd have to stay as i've struggled with anaesthetic in the past and this time i was having afternoon surgery giving me less time to recover before the day ward shut. I also knew if i had to stay in i would be transferred to a different hospital, so I mentally prepared myself for that and was glad i did. If you take a few extra bits, and ensure you have a phone charger etc, and be prepared for that unlikely, but possible outcome it might make you feel a bit better going into surgery. I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck.
