I've just got my appointment through for a laparoscopy 21st November and I just wondered if there's any advice I have been told I will need a week off work but I do a physical job and I don't think that will give me enough recovery time.
Thanks treez

You will probably need 2 wks off unless you can arrange light duties after your wk off. I work as a race horse groom and tried to go back after a wk and ended up having to get a doctors note for another wk. Dont try to be a hero, no one at work hands out medals for it!!! If you explain to your surgeon/doctor what your job involves they will understand you will need more recovery time. Look after yourself and good luck with your lap x
Thanks I plan to take 2 weeks off but I will take more time if needed I don't want to rush things,I might see about doing half days for the first week back just in case.
It's now 10 days since my first one and I'm thinking I need to ask for a third week off. Been harder than I thought. Everyone is different and I guess it depends if you have any treatment. Don't rush it! X
Thanks I will just have to wait and see I'm going to do exactly as they tell me and hopefully that will help me recover.I hope that you're on the mend now and I wouldn't rush back to work to soon it's really important to get yourself better first.
I went back to work after 1 week. It's a piece of cake, you fall asleep and wake up. You don't feel any pain because of the medication I didn't feel pain for hours after my surgery and then when I did it felt like I did too many sit ups! You will probably bleed for a few weeks so get some pads before surgery.
Hi when I got my laparoscopy the hospital Dr automatically gave me a 2 week Dr's line. I also have a physicaly demanding job and I would say that I definitely needed this time. There is a lot of pain afterwards.
Hi.I have just had that procedure 9 days ago n they removed endo from cervix n in left abdomen.I was surprised how much pain I was in n definitely wouldn't have been able to go back after a week.It is a lot better than it was and I am walking around a lot more now and lying flat. I felt sick afterwards n threw up the next day n still felt sick for about another day-a friend I spoke that weekend said she insisted on being given an anti sickness drug before she left the ward and I wished I had known to ask for that as being sick was v painful and slowed down my recovery.
Everyone is different and cope with pain differently. I had a laposcopy 2 years ago, they reopened half of my c-section scar. Having a laposcopy is the only way to get diagnosed with endometriosis. I'm not trying to scare you and I hope it doesn't happen to you, but my laposcopy was a waste of time as the endo came back. I had a 2nd op and also was a waste of time as it came back a 2nd time. I'm now on medication. Good luck with your op x
Thanks I just want to find out if it is endo and deal with it I know it comes back but if it comes back at least I know what to expect I feel better informed now rather than when I started with symptoms (it was previously put down to ibs)sorry to hear about your bad experience hopefully you are getting the right treatment now.
I know exactly what you mean about knowing when I 1st went to see my Dr, he put it down to my c-section and that was it for a few years...until the pain got worse and unbearable, then they looked into it more. But it is a very hard thing to diagnose. I've had 2 ops and it's come back both times and I'm on all sorts of medication now. Everyone is different though, hopefully you'll get to know and all is well for you x
That's great thanks it seems to vary quite a lot I will stick with taking 2 weeks and see how it goes.I Know that it might seem a strange question but what's the best thing to wear for travelling home obviously no tight jeans but I'm just thinking of my tender tummy I live about 55 miles away from my hospital so thinking ahead here.
