Is this normal??

I've been in constant pain everyday for the last 2/3 months however the last 3 weeks the pain has worsened.

My stomach now feels really tender, swollen and bruised like I've been punched or something, is this normal? I've not had pain like this before & I've been suffering with Endo for over 2 years.

Not sure if this is the same sort of pain to mine. But I once wrote a post about a bruised / tender stomach, unfortunately I didn't have any replies.

The pain I get comes on suddenly, and it feels like someone has repeatedly punched me in my stomach. It feels very bruised and tender and every little movement hurts.

Again like you I never had that sort of pain before. And when I get it, it happens once a month and will last a few days (perhaps 4 at the most).

When I mentioned this to my endometriosis nurse on the phone she went to check with the consultant and she called me back to say it sounds like I am having an internal bleed. And that it is nothing to worry about.... (which sounds absurd! I'm planning on seeing my GP to get some stronger pain relief)

If you are getting this pain all the time, you need to go back to your GP or gyne. And I saw another post of yours about BSGE Centres, ask your GP or gyne to refer you. It was my gyne that referred me (although she did say no to begin with).

This sounds very similar to my pain :((( it does last approximately 4 days and is cyclical, it comes at the end of my period. The pain is very severe and sets suddenly. Is it the same for you?

It does come on suddenly, but I have a mirena coil and haven't had a period since June. See what your doctor says, because what I previously said was just my doctors opinion on what I described over the phone x

My doctor did an endometrial biopsy and it came back with acute and chronic inflammation. So the pain is related to inflammation and it could be an infection... But we don't know what kind and how to treat it so far.

Endometriosis, which is inflammation /infection of the endometrium can appear after a D&C or IUD...

Yeah it feels just like that except mine has been constant for the last 2 months.

Yes I've spoken to my doctor about being referred to the bsge clinic so hopefully they can help me. When i mentioned the swollen/ bruised stomach he never really thought anything of it :/ they don't seem to take these things seriously enough.

Sorry to hear that you are struggling so much with pain - it's never an issue you want to have to deal with.

Anyhow... it sounds to me as if your body is telling you it's time you sought out some advice and assistance. Symptoms like pain, and other unpleasant sensations, are generally the body's way of letting you know that something may be wrong - and you should probably get it checked out. You don't say whether you have had your symptoms checked out previously, or whether you have been diagnosed with anything like Endo, so it's hard to know exactly what we are dealing with.

Still, Endo can cause constant pain. Some people believe that Endo pain is only cyclical and comes and goes with a woman's periods. This can be true for some women, but others DO experience constant pain. This may depend upon where the Endo is growing and what type of Endo it is, as well as other symptoms that a woman experiences. It might be a good idea for you to keep a record - like a diary - of ALL your symptoms, when and where they occur, and how they make you feel. Also, record anything that you do to try to relieve the symptoms - a record of treatment - plus whether it succeeds or not. Information like this is useful to take to appointments, as it may give a clearer picture of your symptoms, and if there are particular patterns to them, may point to the type of cause.

Endo can cause a wide variety of symptoms, which may be why some medics confuse it for other illnesses. Every woman's Endo experience is probably different, but I would advise that ANY woman who is experiencing symptoms that trouble her should get them checked out. We all know our own bodies, and are right to trust our instincts when we suspect that all is not well.

It could be that the pain you feel is related to Endo, including the pain in your stomach. Symptoms of Endo can vary according to where the Endo is located in your body (see endo-resolved.com/symptoms). The pain could be caused by internal bleeding (which is what Endo growths cause because they behave just like the lining of your womb). It could be caused by inflammation, which is also something Endo may lead to. Or, it could be caused by adhesions, which are sticky growths of scarring that can again be the result of Endo, or its treatment (surgery can sometimes cause adhesions).

To put your mind at rest, it could be a good idea to seek advice and visit the Doctor. perhaps you could request referral to an Endo specialist so that you can have your pain and symptoms checked out. Diagnosis of Endo can only definitively be confirmed by Lap surgery, but it can sometimes show up on things like MRI scans. There are also other things which could just as easily cause symptoms like you describe - including IBS, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, food intolerances... The ONLY way to definitely know what is behind your pain and swollen, tender stomach is to seek referral to a medical professional who is best qualified to deal with such symptoms. If you are not yet seeing a Gynae, then it's maybe time to seek one out. If you are concerned you have Endo, then an Endo specialist is probably the best person to see. They can be found at nationwide centres recommended by the BSGE. To locate such a centre, see bsge.org.uk/centre

I'm sorry I can't assist more, but hope this could help. Wishing you all the best. E. x

Thank you.

I have been diagnosed with endo and had the lap in April. I also had the coil fitted but I've since been in more pain, lasting everyday now, I've currently been signed off work.

I spoke to my doctor about my bruised stomach but he never really thought anything of it or said anything about it. Hopefully once i get my referral to the bsge clinic they will take it more seriously. X
