Over the last few months I've noticed when I have a period my belly button gets incredibly sore. At first I thought it was infected or something but now I'm convinced it's endo related. I haven't had the chance to ask my consultant about it. Just wondering if anyone else suffers with this and if you know what is causing it?
I was diagnosed with endo after bleeding from my belly button. I'd had soreness on and off in that area (mainly on!) for a couple of years. Had numerous scans etc to be told it must be a pulled muscle! It was only when there was blood coming out of my belly button that I was diagnosed! It didn't totally sync with my period so was hard to spot. Hope you get sorted soon!
Wow, I actually read a case study of endo in the belly button. But it was so close to the skin the swelling was visible, so they found it. Had you had previous surgery? I kind of think that I have endo in my belly button laparoscopy scar.
No previous surgery- they won't even perform a diagnostic lap "just in case" it causes scar tissue. I'm having loads of issues with treatment at the moment. I'm in constant pain with my hips and they refuse to believe it's linked to my endo even though it's typical endo symptoms. They're sending me to a hip specialist instead! I'm thinking of going private if I can.
So the can visualize endo in the bellybutton but won't proceed with any treatment? How strange
I have had pain in my belly button, in fact that's what took me to the doctors a few years ago and led me to have my first lap for suspected umbilical endo. They didn't find any endo under my belly button but was widespread in my pelvis. I still have some pain in my belly button post surgery, they wonder if the endo is stuck in the stalk of the umbilicus but it didn't show up even on an mri. Usually it can swell in line with my period but can get pain at other times of the month and once I have my period it can hurt in my belly button when I wee too. But it's a mystery at the moment! Xx
Definitely go and get it checked out. I had pain in my belly button for a few years and 'ignored' it, thinking it was the result of some earlier surgery I had had and just scar tissue. However it then started bleeding aswell. I had s biopsy taken last year confirming endometriosis of the umbilicus. My pain is quite random and not necessarily related to my period but it bleeds at ovulation mid cycle and during my period. My consultant has suggested some more surgery to remove the whole area and a plastic surgeon can replace my belly button. But just go get it checked, trust your instincts. It may just be scar tissue or something if you have had other surgery, but best to get it checked. Don't leave it like I did!

I started having soreness in my belly button a few years ago. A few years later I started to grow a lump, then I started to bleed from it sometimes during my period. I had a 2nd course of zoladex last year because my doc isn't (for lack of a better word) too excited about me having another laparotomy/ laparoscopy so soon after the last. And I'm not either especially because my insurance doesn't cover the endo. However, the good news is that it hasn't bled since I did the treatment but it still hurts during AF.
This makes me feel a little better (?), as I have just started getting this too and have been quite concerned - I also have had a laparoscopy a few years ago and the scar tissue is also very sore. I'd better keep an eye on it...
Thanks ladies for all your comments, it really helps to know it's not just me and also it is probably the endo causing it. I've had a date through for my next lap, 1st June, so I'll be sure to mention it before I go under and hopefully they can look at it while I am in xxx
