Are we classed as disabled? And entitled to any extras or benefits?

I am yet to be formally diagnosed although my partner mentioned this and it made me wonder that surely Endo must be a disability of some extent?

Hi there I can see why it doesnt entitle to any benefits I think this is because there is no way to prove the extent of the pain , some ladies have mild Endo but extreme pain, and some have extensieve endo yet not so much pain but maybe heavy periods, there is no one fits all for endo, and benefit fraud does happen, yes they may be diagnosed with endo but some may exaggerate their pain to claim, we see it all the time such as the typical whiplash claims , there's no way to actually prove the extent of the pain and you would end up with the fraudsters somewhere along the line, which is horrible for the ladies who genuinely are in excruciating debilitating pain , luckily I don't suffer with pain to that extent but I know that those who do could literally be classed as disabled , it's a horrible disease , hopefully one day we will find a cure xx

I'm not sure about benefits etc but I am covered by disability at work so that I cannot get sacked for having time of with pain.

Thanks for your replies, very interesting, disappointing but makes sense, I think we should at least be eligible for a blue badge!

I've currently been wondering about this as I am applying for my loans for uni, my course is very much placement based so have to walk a lot and was wondering if I'd get extra money to help get a bus there

Get in touch with the disability unit at your uni, they are usually incredibly helpful and will let you know if there are any pots of money you can access. It's been a while since I looked into it but there used to be the disabled student allowance which you could access.

My personal opinion is that endometriosis meets the requirement set out by the Equality Act of being a disability. It's long term and affects day to day activities. But it is of course personal to the individual as endo affect everyone differently.

That maybe slightly different to social benefits, I left a uni a few years ago but there is defiantly extra help from universities although I think you would have to apply direct to the university once you have started your course,

Dear god that is horrendous. What a complete and utter selfish part & that is putting it nicely! Shocking the way the government treat people when they are at their lowest. My mum was left high and dry after a brain haemorrhage, no help from anywhere & managing on her widows pension. Bloody hate this country!

Hope you are ok Linda xx
