Endometriosis or not?

About 2 years ago I noticed that my period pains were starting to get unusually painful, the pains had always been bad but I felt as if someone had stabbed me! After that I noticed these pains were coming on throughout the month, not when I was only period. I was out on a course of mefanemic acid tablets but they didn't do anything. My legs have started to ache, my lower back is always hurting, I feel as if I can bearly stand up sometimes, I'm bloated, it's painful to have sex (it doesn't bode well with the other half) and I've noticed spotting of blood afterwards! My doctor says it's nothing and not to worry, can someone give me some advice on what to do? I'd appreciate the help greatly!

Hello, I'd say that you have some symptoms that may be related to endo. If I were you I'd go back to your GP and say you aren't happy to just carry on with these symptoms and can you be referred to a specialist. My experience is that you have to push very hard to get GPs when it comes to endo. I personally asked for a second opinion after 18months of being of ignored and then I had a lap which identitied stage 4 endo.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your pain and what appears to be a dismissive Doctor. I think you need to push for a referral to a specialist asap.

I have endometriosis and my pain started to feel different, sex was beginning to be more painful and my periods irregular. I thought maybe it was my endo getting worse again so went to the Doctors who referred me to a specialist. The specialist suspects Adenomyosis as well as endo as my uterus is very tender and enlarged which he noted during an internal examination. I am booked in for a diagnostic laparoscopy and biopsy to confirm next week.

I mention this as your symptoms sound similar to both endo and Adenomyosis, which is not uncommon as they are similar. So please do ask your GP about both conditions and a referral to a specialist. If he/she continues to be dismissive get a 2nd opinion if possible. It's not ok or "normal" that you are pain!

I wish you all the best.
