Hi ruby. I was on zolodex for a year without h.r.t and just had my full hysterectomy sept 4th. When i was on zolodex i made the decision not to use hormoned and even now i wont. The worse problems i had was hit flushes and my sleep was a bit off (thats bad as i also have fibromyalgia). I looked at it that anything was better than what i hadbeen going through since i was 13. I get the extra calcium from increasing my egg intake and taking tums(ant-acids). I am 38 so close enough in age to yourself. Have you thought of coming off h.r.t? Samxx
Yes having periods on HRT is normal. The HRT is replacing the sex hormones that were being produced in the ovaries because your body does need them.
Your bones need them to grow and remain strong and avoid osteoperosis, your heart health also needs the hormones to stay in good working order too.
Your are still some 20 years from natural menopause time - and in that time frame your body will need hormones that your ovaries had prevously supplied.
Sadly that also means that if you have any existing endo left behind after surgery and if your uterus is still there then they will continue to have their little periods too.
The pituitary gland in the brain is still sending our signals to the body to prepare for a pregnancy, and when that doesn't happen and send changed signals back to the pituitary - it will send out more signals to say the menstrual lining is getting old now and needs to be shed and replaced with a new one, so it sends messages back to the endo and uterus to trigger a period.
In a nutshell that's how HRT works. you still have periods provided the pituitary gland is still working and the uterus lining is still able to shed each month.
I'm the same as you.... Had my last ovary removed in August now on HRT (Tibolone). Had period pains and bleeding for some time after the op them it gradually stopped. If you are worried about anything go and see your GP. Its a lot to deal with after a big op and you shouldn't be left to worry about anything.
