HSG scan

I'm booked in for an HSG scan was just wondering what to expect & what happens after this , will they be able to tell me there what they find or will I have to wait & go back for results? Also my friend said it's quite painful afterwards? As I am due to go bk to work straight after x

I believe that I will have to have one of these tests in the future. From what I understand a catheter is put into your "area" (sorry) and it is used to inject dye into your tubes to your uterus. It checks for blockages in the tubes, at least that's what my doctor will check for. I believe that the pain depends if there is a blockage, but it is considered to be comparable to a period cramp as the dye acts as a menstrual cycle and your uterus cramps. Some have had help with pain by taking a good ibuprofen about an hour before the procedure, but I am sure everyone is different.

The upside is, if you are trying to get pregnant sometimes the dye can push out a blockage and many women have gotten pregnant after the procedure.

Again, I don't know first hand, but this is what I have read online and heard from my doctor. Good luck :)

Thank you for your advice :)

Yes my friend has had it done & said it was quite uncomfortable after, but after that they put her on chlomid & she's just had a beautiful baby boy

I had this done awhile ago and it was completely fine, was so nervous but I barely felt it. I'd had a colposcopy done a few years ago and that was awful but this was nothing in comparison to that. It didn't last very long and I did have some cramping after but nothing too bad, in fact I went shopping for a couple of hours afterwards but that might not be what everyone wants to do! I did take some ibuprofen beforehand so would recommend that and I had some spotting afterwards so would recommend you take a pad. I did feel a bit tearful after but that was more because I was relieved it was over. It really isn't as bad as you think, it's definitely the not knowing that is the worst so I hope this has helped in some way. Good luck xx

Yes I've also had a colposcopy it wasn't nice at all :( so it's good to know it won't be painful :) & as you say it's the results that is worrying methe most. I've booked the day off work anyway so don't have to worry about that, thank you for your kind advice xx
