Rectal bleeding

Hey everyone. I haven't posted here for a while. I hope you are all doing okay. Since my hospital admission in May I have noticed an improvement, I think my coil is starting to work. I'm still in a lot of pain though, but it's more under control than it was. However over the last few days I have had rectal bleeding which was a bit of a shock, and it hurts so much to go to toilet. It's so painful that I actually dread going. I've never had rectal bleeding before and I don't know what to do so thought I would ask for some advice. It's not too bad, so I haven't been too worried but I don't think I should ignore it. I know it's quite common to have this with endo, but I'm also a bit worried that it's caused by diclofenac which apparently can cause gastrointestinal problems. I really don't know what to do, I don't know whether it's serious enough to call my specialist or GP but I don't think ignoring it is a good idea.

Hi Tamsin.

You poor thing, I can completely relate to dreading going to the loo. Now I'm not a doctor by any means but I do suffer with my bum! Generally if the blood is on the tissue and bright red like normal blood it's probably a small tear in your anus or a small pile. These tears ( also known as fissures) can occur when you suffer from constipation and have to strain to go to the loo. It can also be the result of painkillers messing up your bowels.

If the blood is actually in your poo, so your poo is black and tarry and smells really bad that means eek! Go to a&e!

Normally there is an endo IBS crossover. I know I suffer from both and sometimes can't distinguish the seperate pains.

I want to Stress to you that any bleeding out of the bottom should be looked at by a gp as soon as possible. It's normally nothing but it's not to be left. Especially if the symptoms are new. You may be having a reaction to meds or anything and it needs to get checked!

Let us know how you get on!

N xx

Thank you for your reply :) I have phoned my specialist nurse and she called me back today. She says she will speak to the doctor on monday and phone me back, she says I might need an MRI scan. I feel a bit better now knowing that I've spoken to the nurse. I will update on monday x

My nurse called me today after speaking to the consultant and said that I need to ask my GP for a referral to a colorectal specialist because they are worried that there might be something else going on as well as endometriosis, because my overall symptoms have improved so they think it is less likely to be endo. This is bad news for me because my sister has Crohn's disease. What If I have it as well? It is the last thing I need with endo as well. I'm hoping it's something else like my medication causing the bleeding.
