has anyone had bowel surgery? I have severe endometriosis and want to try hormones first but no knowledge of success with bowel or hormones
From my understanding all meds for endo will have a temporary suppressive effect but can cause unpleasant side effects. They also should not be used long term. Excision surgery is the best hope of permanent relief. I understand however about your concerns due to the complication of the bowel. I guess it is weighing up how much the bowel endo is impacting on your quality of life. If you do decide to have surgery be sure to have it at an endo BSGE accredited centre who will be well equipped to deal with bowel complications.
I have had both, I had approx. 2 foot of small intestine (bowel) removed. I also have undergone numerous hormone treatments including having Zoladex for 6 months, which in effect put through my menopause in my late twenties!! Everything reverted back when i came off it thankfully. After numerous ops open and keyhole, i have been relatively pain free for a good few years now, whereas before hand i was extremely sick and in immense pain all of the time xx
Thank you to both Jdgirl030 and samk1 for your answers, it's given me some more to think about. It's so hard to know what is right for me as there is no guarantee of success but at least I can be informed. Hope you are both well and thanks again.xx
I had stage IV endo that had stuck my uterus and bowel together. My surgeon put me on prostap last June. This stopped all my symptoms and I had HRT to stop the mood swings. 3 weeks ago I had a resection to separate the organs. The op should have taken about 4 hours with 2 surgeons. It was that stuck however it took 8 hours. The surgeon hopes all was removed. I go on Monday for an X-ray to see how the bowel has healed and to whether or when the illeostomy can be reversed.
