Help.....

Ladies I was admitted into hospital in February with severe burning pain over my right ovary. The hospital thought a chocolate cyst was leaking.

I've now got the pain again but not as severe, but I'm still struggling to manage it with all my regular pain relief. I also have cramping type pains.

Anyone experienced this before?

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Really sorry to hear this.

What stage are you at with your period or do you know after the timing was upset? Also where is the cramping, is it across your abdomen around the uterus or elsewhere?

I had endo removed 7 years ago but I have had pain on and off (no rhyme or reason to the timing) at the site of my right ovary since about 9 months after the op. My specialist was in denial that it was endo related but I'm convinced that was when a cyst started growing. In December I was diagnosed with large endometrioma on each ovary. I feel as though my ovary could be stuck to either my abdominal wall or my bowel. The pain is burning. It starts gradually and escalates. Sometimes I have been rolling around in bed in agony and no OTC painkillers help. It is often triggered by stress. (I think you had some long stints at work this week.)

I don't get it as bad as I used to. I think my diet has helped and teaching myself to relax. Also acupuncture on a regular basis. A trip to an osteopath to sort out my buttock and thigh pain also helped. I need to see him again as that's coming back again. When I get it now I find a hot bottle helps a lot and my other hobby horse, mint tea. If that fails I move onto ibuprofen and luckily these days that seems to work.

If the cramping is the uterus then I should think that's the adeno. At the risk of being labelled 'that mad magnesium woman' magnesium would help with cramping of any kind. It's a sign of too much calcium in the muscles which cause the muscle to contract. Magnesium regulates calcium and tones and relaxes the muscle. The uterus is basically a muscle. Also low potassium could be behind this.

Hope you find some relief soon. Sending big hugs to you. xx

Hello Brownlow.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm not entirely sure when my period is due... It very possible that it could be on its way..

The cramping is across my belly, and is at the level of the top of my pubic bone. I've had one of the lovely magnesium baths that you suggested previously, and it's helped the cramping.

The burning pain comes in waves and at its peek, stops me in my tracks! I've taken tramadol and naproxen which isn't helping a great deal.

Do you think the burning pain is due to the endometrioma? My ovaries are stuck to my uterus and the right one is also adhered to my colon.

I was feeling so well yesterday..... But I spoke too soon.

How are you today?

Hi Barbara,

A nice hot bath is helpful at any time!

Yes, my pain comes in waves too. That's a good way to describe it. Sometimes it really revs up and nearly makes me stop breathing before it subsides until the next wave. When I explained this to my surgeon 6 years ago he started me on buscopan and lactulose (neither made any difference) because he was convinced it was my bowel going in to spasm due to constipation. I was adamant it was my ovary. He referred me on to a gastroenterologist who recommended the linseeds and water. While this really helped, my own feeling was and still is that the problem started with the ovary and upset the bowel.

I hope it has subsided and you have a better day tomorrow. xx
