Anyone had experience of this? Why would this be done instead of lap?

MRI for endo diagnosis?
I had an MRI on Tuesday. It doesnt really show endo unless it is of a certain size. But it will show if anything is sticking and pulled together and if you have any growths like fibroids. But small bits of endo I believe it won't show x
MRI scan will show the size and position of your uterus. It will determine if you have any fibroids or adenomyosis.
It will also show :
fliud in the pouch of Douglas.
If things are stuck together (ovaries to uterus etc)
Size of your ovaries and if you have any cysts including a chocolate cyst (endometrioma)
Adhesions or scarring in your pelvis
Thickning of uteralsacral ligaments.
Large nodules or deposits of endometriosis.
MRI scans are very useful but they do not show up small areas of endometriosis or the extent of involvement on your bladder and bowel.
A laparoscopy is still the best way to determine whether you have endometriosis and to what extent.
I had an MRI in December and it has been helpful to know the extent of my disease but I am still waiting to have a laparoscopy,
Best wishes,
Barbara x
Thank you both for your replies. It's a four week wait for the MRI and have been put on the waiting list for a lap which is 18 weeks approx.
it's all a bit overwhelming and very scary at the moment! Too many unknowns for my liking!
Interesting to read this. I've not been offered an MRI, but had a lap last May and due my 2nd on 22nd may this year. Will keep this in mind to ask what my consultants views are x
