Hi Levi1122,

I'm not familiar with the injection you've mentioned here but as with most medicational & contraceptive injections they cannot be 100% effective & can sometimes take a few courses to be well absorbed.

Lupron/Prostap - should in most ladies stop ovulation - but you have no way of knowing if that has applied to you.

The question is not can you fall pregnant? but can you afford to risk falling pregnant? and the answer is NO.

The drug is highly toxic to a pregnancy- if it doesn't result in spontaneous abortion it sure can damage a developing baby and cause deformities of growth.

It works by shutting down the pituitary gland in your brain, which produced the hormones that do many things in your body. Just one of those is to promote healthy bone growth.

So it will not only stop your own bones from growing and strengthening - it causes a loss of your bone density, but the same thing will happen in a developing foetus when the drug reaches their pituitary gland, by travelling through your blood stream across the placenta and in to the baby.

Just at the most critical time for a baby needing to grow.

Therefore strict advice is given to not be pregnant when you start the drugs and to do all possible not to get pregnant while on the drugs - and also for the 4 months after stopping the drugs while residual trace amounts can remain in your body.

You must use condoms, and or caps, diaphragms - barrier contraception methods, because the drug overrides all the hormone based ones - like mirena coil, BC Pills, implanon arm implants etc.

There are many cases of foetal deformities and lost pregnancies because of Lupron.

In most of us it causes the vagina and cervix to dry up and libido or sex drive falls to zero, so having sex at all is not something you will be wanting to do.

And if you do feel the need- then so make sure you are using a lot of extra lubrication and vaginal moisturisers to prevent friction damage to the vagina. Just relying on the small amount of lube with an average condom is not enough.

The drug is not a contraceptive - if anything it is an anti-contraceptive because it overides most of the usual forms of contraception. It is proven NOT SAFE for pregnancy.
