Hi fibobs,

Take a look at our publications on our website, there's a great leaflet available to download all about laparoscopies, and lots of other things too, hope you find them and the rest of the website useful...

All the best

As a rule the first one in just to have a look around, with mine he found stage 4 so he just drained my cysts to remove pressure temporarily (one was 15cm) and they booked me in for a 6 hour slot 3 months after, I only had a very short theatre slot the first tmr round x

They found and treated mine on my first laproscopy. I gave permission for them to treat anything they found. Good luck x

i had my first lap two weeks ago, they found lots of endo and lasered what they could, but said it wasnt safe to remove it all. I was 'under' for just over an hour. I think there was something on the consent form about them dealing with anything they can, while your having the surgery, Good luck!

Thanks I'm will be signing that for sure. Did it take long for you to recover? Strangely enough I'm more bothered about a needle in back of my hand which is a bit silly, and being sick after.

I don't like needles either - one of the nurses kept me talking so I was distracted when they put it in! I was a bit drowsy for an hour or so after, but they gave me some tea & toast which perked me up. I wasnt sick, but they can give you something in the pre-med now which helps prevent it. I found the hardest thing was not being able to drink anything from midnight the night before, as I'm naturally very thirsty - 1st thing I said when I came round was 'can I have a drink?'. I found I slept a lot the first week and kept having dizzy spells, I suspect from the anaesthetic, then, like some of the other ladies said, I tried to walk a little bit further every day (I made sure I had someone with me I could hold onto if I needed to). I'm sure evrything will be ok.

Me too!! Mines on the 28th Feb! Good luck! I actually had my first Laparoscopy at age 14 (Now 21) to treat cysts that had twisted on the ends of my fallopian tubes and now having another one to officially diagnose my possible Endo.

If they are a surgeon like mine, all the risks and the procedure should be explained to you, and usually they diagnose and treat what they can at the same time, it just depends on the level of associated "risk".

E.g if they have a look around and find that minor endo is present say on the surface of the bowel, is not infiltrating the bowel and can be easily removed with minor risk - then they will go ahead and treat it at the same time.

However if they for example find there is endo on the surface of the bowel AND has infiltrated the bowel itself this is a much riskier procedure and will require the expertise of a bowel surgeon and most likely will require your signed consent of this procedure, and a second surgery organised where all the right specialist surgeons are available on hand.

Before going into your surgery make sure you ask every question you may have - no matter how silly. Every procedure has risks involved and its important that we feel comfortable putting our trust in the hands of others! (Literally!!)

But Good luck to you love - I'm sure we will both be soldiers!!!

:)

I've got my first one on the 27th, and I've also asked if I can have a pre-med, to help with the canula in the back of the hand, which may be good for you too. I'm going to give permission to treat as much as they can (I have several cysts, largest being 8cm in diameter, another is 6cm) which means I may end up having a laparotomy. Scary as I won't find out till afterwards!! But I've been reassured that they will only do the laparotomy if really needed. Good luck, I'm sure everything will be ok x
