I'm 20 years old and my parents keep going on about paying rent and I felt pressured into going back to work after a week as I felt fine. I work in a care home lots of manual handling needed I did a three day shift with no break on between each shift being 7ish hours long I'm no in loads of pain and my parents don't seen to understand. They know people who have had it later I life and know they won't suffer again however I'm 20 just had it removed and know there is a very high chance it will be back again at some stage I really don't know what to do or who to turn to as my parents won't listen to me

I went back after a week but I have a desk job. You need to rest big time otherwise you run the risk of causing a herniation. Maybe you should explain this to your parents, I can't believe they can ignore that.

Laparoscopy recovery for manual labouring jobs like yours is 6 to 8 weeks off. You should not start any sports or gym for 10 weeks. Regardless of age.

and some ladies may need even longer. If you do go back to too soon before you have healed inside, as you found out, will cause a major set back and delay recovery even longer. Speak to your GP and get signed off for at least a fortnight of REST.

You are entitled to sick pay - so that should cover the rent demands - though it is quite absurd for parents to demand rent when you are recovering from major surgery in my view.

Your employer has a duty of care to you too - and should be providing you with a safe working environment while you recover or paying you sick pay to stay at home while you are unfit for work. Get your GP to write a note to your employer explaining the surgery you have had done and that you are not to be doing any manual lifting for so many weeks till your body has had the chance to heal properly.

Have you got a grandparent or aunt who will be more sympathetic to your recovery and give you a bed for the next few weeks of recovery - that way you deprive your parents of any income from your sick pay.

Hi I'm 21 and had a lap 3 weeks ago and have only just gone back to uni after taking the first week off and I'm still not pain free. There's no way I could've done anything after one week so please don't push yourself into going to work, especially as your work is physically demanding. You've just had an op and you need to take the time to let your body heal and recover before starting to ease back into things :) Feel free to PM me if you want a chat :) X

Hello

My jobs standing up all day with a small amount of manual work, first lap I was back after 3 days, second was a much longer operation, 6 hours and I had a lot of work done including tubes out and stage 4 removed from bladder and bowel, I was back to work after 10 days then, first 3 days were spent in hospital xx

Thanks for all the advise I tried telling my mum last night how physical it is. Although we use hoists to move people it still involves a lot of rolling of people and some are very large. As for sick pay I'm not entitled to it because I'm bank work which means I work when I want to rather so I don't know if I can get signed off either? I will talk to my doctor and see what he says so I can then come home and say to my parents that it's not just me that thinks I'm being pushed to much xx
