Had an ablation 5 years ago but looks like endo is back but yet to have tests to confirm. Has anyone else had an ablation? Did it work?
I don't get periods anymore so lucky there as I had very heavy periods before but I do have lining grow each month according to scans so it must go regrade lay into my body.

I haven't had ablation so can't help there, but sounds like you've done really well to have 5 years effect from it. I was wondering if you also had all endo removed at the same time (ie. in pelvic cavity/outside of uterus)? If not, then the endo will still be there and will continue to grow if you still have oestrogen in your body, regardless of no periods and any retrograde bleeding will just add to that, as you say. I understood it that ablation is to help heavy periods, and in most helps stops periods, and will have the same "management" effect on endo as anything else that stops periods, but does not actually treat endo itself, only surgical removal of the endo can do that. I hope you get some answers soon, what tests are you having? x
Hi. I had an ablation done before I even knew I had Endo; it took another 18 months for a laparoscopy to diagnose that! I agree with hayls in that an ablation only removes the womb lining to stop heavy periods but does not stop Endo growing elsewhere in the body. My periods didn't stop but became a lot lighter and more manageable. However, I kept getting a raised CA125 blood test reading and pelvic pain all the time so further tests were done. I had a chocolate cyst and stage 4 Endo everywhere according to the surgeon. X
That is possible but I couldn't tell you for sure because any pain I get could be from both that AND the Endo; I wouldn't know. I was also told by my surgeon that sometimes some of the endometrium lining is missed when the ablation is done or can even grow back after a time. What I do know for sure is that just before I had my treatment for Endo I was starting to lose clots again when I had a period and the bleeding had started to get heavier again. This was about a year after my ablation op! X
I had an ablation 3 and 1/2 years ago as sufferedwith very heavy periods and pain for years before. Periods very light afterwards andpain lot better up until a year ago. Then painreturned with a vengeance periods a bit heavier but nite like before. Finally went to see gynea 2 months ago now been diagnosed with endorsing and adenymiosis. Awaiting hysterectomy next year and currently on zoladex. I think endo been there for yearsmyself
Hi, I've had 3 ablations done and it has returned each time with extras. Now booked in for total hysterectomy and other organ removal on 7th Jan 2014 as my womb has been deemed too weak for me to pursue IVF. x
