Has anyone had surgery to remove endo from the bowel? I have read that this will get worse if not treated. Is this true??

My left ovary is also attached to the bowel. I have a uniconuate uterus on the right side so the left ovary is not attached to a fallopian tube or the womb. I get a lot of pain from this. Not sure if surgery is the answer.

If you are not saving that unconnected ovary for anything like IVF then no point keeping it if it gives you pains and/or cysts.

I have bicornuate and forfeited the left ovary and fallopian tube half of the contraption that vaguely passes for a uterus, as no way i can carry a pregnancy with the mess i have going on inside. Felt so much better having the left side at least cleared out.

The remaining ovary is still working, so for the time being i am keeping it so I don't have to go on to HRT, and there is a mirena installed in the remaining 'half' side to stop my periods. Seems to be doing a very good job of that at present.

Endo can be on the outside, in the wall of, and on the inside of the bowel surface and depending on where it is, can determine how urgent it needs to be seen to.

I have endo inside the bowel and it does bleed when the endo is active, but although i do from time to time have trouble with loo trips (pain) apart from actually going to the loo, and few minutes afterwards, it is not painful geneally speaking, just annoying when it bleeds. So from that point of view, given how drastic the surgey is, I am not in any hurry to have my bowels operated on again.

I also has endo on the outside surface, which was lasered and that seems to have done a decent job for now.

Deep endo penetrating through the muscle of the bowel does require a resection op, where they cut out the tube of bowel that contains the endo growth. This is a big op, and does take place as two operations with you wearing a colostomy bag in between the ops.

All endo gets worse if left untreated, regardless of where it is growing. You have to weigh up the risks of surgery complications, surgery recovery time and managing the symptoms you have now got already.

If you can get by with pain killers and stool softeners when required and apart from going to the loo it is not too painful then you might prefer to deal with it as best you can like I am doing. I had major surgery just over 2 years ago...and that took a long recovery and i am not yet ready to go through that again just yet.

I could cope with a lap op, but not a big hole op for a while yet, unless it is urgent.

Thanks for the information. It sounds like you have been through the mill with it all. Glad to hear that it seems under control for you. I hope this continues. I have thought about having that ovary removed but the consultant hasn't said this is what she suggests. The endo is on the bowel wall so maybe having it removed would be the next step along with the ovary. They have put me on Prostap injections but I'm having a horrific time with them. I ended up being admitted to hospital on Wednesday with a severe headache. Like you I could probably cope with another lap but not a big op.

Hi I am in the same boat, my Endo is stuck to my Bowel as well, I got my cyst drained & the coil put in. I am 37 with no children, but as past few months I have been in & out of hospital with really bad pains, the cyst is back 7.5cm x 6.2cm, I got an infection & 1 of the antibiotics that I was put on I took a bad reaction, my ski started to burn like I had rolled in nettles & it was so itchy you would have thought I had lay in the sun my skin was burning & really hot. Now my skin is peeling. I have talked it over with my Doctor & go on the 28th Nov for her to tell me the plan for my operation. the best result is they just have to take a small piece of Bowel & then stick it back together, 2nd result I will need a bag on for a while, then worst case I will need a bag on for every. I have also been told that they are taking my both ovaries so the more I think on it & talk with my Mum & Sisters I am strongly thinking about getting all away while they have me under, the only question I have is if I get all away & I have to go on HRT, will that still cause me to have Endo????
