I'm probably just venting and moaning but. . .

I spent a weekend in hospital at the beginning of August, after being rushed in with suspected appendicitis. After numerous tests the surgical team (who conferred with gynae) that I had 3 endometrioma on my left ovary. They sent me home with no advice, medication or information just said they would refer me to gynae for an appointment in 6 weeks. They took a CA 125 test then and I have struggled to get results until today when I received my discharge summary which says they prescribed pain medication (which they didn't) the information written about their investigation is different to what they told me (admittedly the dr who discharged me said he didn't know anything about endo and that I'd have to wait and discuss it in 6wks) they also put that I was in hospital for almost 2 was when I was only there for 3 days. But when I called them they couldn't explain any of it and said they was nothing they could do as the dr that discharged me wasn't there! I tried to speak to a GP (not my usual as she is away) this was a male GP (not sure how much of a difference that makes) because the pain was really bad and he said "oh well one of the endometrioma has probably burst, it'll stop hurting eventually it's nothing serious. I guess my question is does anyone else get this kind of response? Like you're complaining just for the sake of and that nothing is really wrong with you at all?

Should probably have mentioned I did eventually get my CA 125 result back which was really low = 15 so the dr at the hospital (who also told me he couldn't help me with anything else or advice, just give me the result) said it's a great result so nothing to worry about.

You have had a bad time these past few weeks hun and I really feel for you. I do understand what you mean about doctors and consultants thinking we make the pain up and almost refer to us as being slightly insane and insinuate the pains all made up in our heads! No one should have to put up with what you have been through, it is terrible to think they had you in hospital for 2 weeks on your paperwork when in reality you were at home after 3 days! I am currently going through a bit of a fight with my consultant, I had a lap in June and I'm in more pain and discomfort than before my lap. Consultant thinks i'm making it up as I couldnt possibly be in pain as he has performed his magic and I'm endo free! Going to see him on Friday, so I'm guessing I will have an interesting conversation with him, I think my complaining head will have to be put on! You might have to put a complaint in about how you were treated, it might get you a quicker appointment to see gynaecology. I do hope you are feeling a bit better, take care X.

Thanks Bonygirl, after "venting" on here I got a call back from one of the GP's at my local surgery as I wanted someone to explain a little more to me. He was really annoyed with how they dealt with my case (I think he was more annoyed than me) he looked up the results on the hospital system and confirmed that they are different than what is written in my discharge letter, he also gave me the name of the gynae consultant that I am supposed to be referred to so that I can call and check that the referral has been done and chase it up a bit. He also recommended that I out in a complaint.

I'm glad you spoke to a doctor with sense and who cares. I hope you find out when your appointment with gynae is soon and that you are considering complaining. Take care X.
