I have a stuck left ovary attached to the back of my womb, ovarian cysts and either a fibroid/ adeymosis. I'm frightened of having a hysterectomy for three reasons. (At my last hospital appointment, I felt as though i was being advised a hysterectomy was my only option)
1, it will not 'cure' my condition.
2, I have a phobia of general anaesthetic.
3, I am concerned that a hysterectomy may trigger depression or anxiety.(I have had both in the past)
As there is so much experience amongst us, I wondered if any of you would have any suggestions on other treatment options? I am 42 and my main symptoms are back pain, bowel problems, ovarian pain and heavy bleeding.
If you feel its not the right thing for you, then DO NOT have done.
Take all the time you need for YOU to decide what is the best treatment for you.
Don't let any consultant make you feel under pressure to make a decision or make you feel silly.
I'm not sure if you are in the UK but if you are I've done some research and if you want to find an expert in endo Prof Wass at the Churchill in Oxford maybe able to help you and advise you of any other treatments which can be offered to you. If not, try and get an expert in the field somewhere else to discuss your options.
Hi Barbara, I too was told hysterectomy was my only option as I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo, I was 36 at the time and was told they couldn't guarantee it would ease the symptoms but that was the only treatment they could offer me. I wasn't happy about it and went away to have a think, 5 weeks later I went back to see my consultant and he referred me to Manchester hospital, 2 hours away from my home to see what they could do for me. I agree with Merlion09 and think you should get a second opinion as it is a huge decision to make.
I also suffer with chronic back, hip, leg, ankle and pelvic pain and have been referred to the chronic pelvic pain clinic, I want to get all the info, advice and treatment I need before I have any more operations.
