Hi all i had a phone call on thursday after waiting 5 months i was offered a cancellation and its the 30th may! I have my pre op the day before. All i know is its going to be abdominal and to be honest i am scared. I am 30 and have 3 children a 2,5 and 7 year old and i am normally running aroynd like a headless chicken.my hubby has only booked a few days off work and isnt being very supportive. Can anyone tell me their experiences?

Hi lovely. I'm now 10 days post op.if anything you certainly won't be able to be that headless chicken!! Hubby will have to take this roll on. I'm having feel good days when I shower dress get up for the day, like yesterday but boy do I pay for it. Feeling good is great and my experience so far wouldn't stop me from doing this again but you do just that little bit on a good day then be prepared for a knock back. I had an uncomfortable night because I didn't rest much, it's taught be to rest even if I feel guilty for it! Get as much help as you can with the children ie school run home to friends to play. Sit them down an explain that mummy will need them to help especially with baby. Get meals stocked in the freezer and don't worry about the dust or the hoovering!! Keep calm and take up any help offered. You'll be fine and will be surprised how quickly you will be up on your feet. You will feel extremely tired so just rest. I wish you all the best with your surgery. Hugs j x

It doesn't matter whether you are having an open or a laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure, you will need at least 6 - 8 weeks off work. You will not be able to drive for at least four weeks - it was longer for me - and lifting is a no-no too! It can takes at least a year for all the nerves and muscles etc to fully heal. You will, as jalo69 said, need lots of support and help.

I am very fortunate, my husband has always been very supportive. All the best with it. They will give you all the info you need at the Pre -op.

Thank you both for your replies i am getting nervous now, hubby understands why i am having the op but is worried about looking after the kids on his own whilst i am in hospital as he doesnt cope as well as me, our elder son is autistic and can be quite challanging at times. We dont have much support from family i lost my mum in february and she was my best support. Although its going to be difficult for a while i cant wait to hopefully feel normal again!xx

So sorry to hear of your loss:( your husband will pull out all the stops and probably be an eye opener for him and you that he can cope. Talk to the school and let the teachers know what's happening, they can be a great support. Im A teaching assistant and having the knowledge of home changes is very helpfull for us and the child if they're a bit wobbly. All being well you will be home within 2 days but you mustn't worry. Talk to close family and friends even a phone call to hubby from them when you're in can help.. Make a list of things the kids like to do when your on your own with them to give hubby instant ideas to keep the calm. Just prepare them tell them what's happening and how you will have to rest when you come home. You certainly don't need to be worrying especially when it's done! Good luck hugs J x
