There is some suggestion that adeno might also be able to grow in the muscle walls of the rectum, so any adeno there would not be affected by the removal of a uterus, but hopefully would be less active if the ovaries are removed too. For the majority with adeno yes the hysterectomy would remove that problem, but it doesn't always leave the patient pain free afterwards.

Thank you for the info impatient I also have endo so I know the pain wont completely go but getting rid of some of the pain I'm hoping the hysterectomy will help the problem is you never know how you're going to react as each person is different and its such a big decision I really need all the info I can :)

I'm facing whether to have full hyster or not, everyone around me doesn't seem to understand why I still debating it or not, they just keep saying have it done, and that I've finished having children. I'd happily have the womb out tomorrow, but I'm having reservations about ovary removal and it's affects long term, and also the fact that I could go through all this surgery and still have endo, if the doc said truthfully this hyster will cure all your pelvic issues I would jump at it but they can't say that, and the fact the endo is in ther places, so how will removing my womb help my bowel endo? Xx

Hi Hun, I'm I. Exactly the same position as you, my family and friends are pushing me into the op, none of them realise that it might not help or might bring up other problems. I have just postponed the op as sooo worried about having it done but everything is getting worse, eg now affecting my stomache every month for two weeks can't eat very easily, and now I am getting very bad sciatica for two weeks as well so feel I should go ahead but worried about weight gain as will be put on Livial and joint pain. It is such a hard decision and feel very confused and worried so feel your pain Hun. X

Please DO NOT get hysterectomies. It is NOT a cure for endo! If endo is in other places other than the womb, it will still be in other places other than the womb after you have your womb out. And so the problems continue. What you need is for it to be cut out properly (easier said than done) therefore no need to remove women's vital organs. I had my 3rd lap (2nd to treat endo) 2 weeks ago and had my endo excised (cut out) and was informed it has all gone and endo hasn't grown back from previous lap. I know it grows back but for now I havn't got the endo pains and symptoms right now. There was no mention of hysterectomy with regards to endo. I do think ladies facing this awful decision should get more opinions from better qualified consultants perhaps and I do understand these things take time and patience etc but it could just be worth your efforts. I saw my gynae last week and she was horrified to learn that people are being offered hysterectomies as a 'cure' for endometriosis, or even as a treatment. She actually got quite animated about it.

Adenomyosis yes. Endometriosis a thousand times no.

Thank you so much ladies, we all have so many decisions to make with this illness I understand it wont get rid of the endo just thinking it may help with the bowling ball feeling I have in my tum from the adeno, I hope you are all as ok as possible withhugs xxx

My specialist was adamant that ovaries should be left to do their jobs, even if wombs have to come out, (which should be avoided too). He suggested I might have adeno and that in a worst case scenario, I would need a hydro. But I was under the impression that even that wouldn't cure pain for absolutely sure, especially if it had been going on for a long time if was in get referred pain from something else. I was very overwhelmed by a horrible physical examination (I find them so painful), at that point.

So I think I'm rephrasing that correctly, apart from "hydro" which should say hysto. ;-)

My doctor said a hysterectomy is not a cure that there is only a small percentage that the pain will go, as Endo can grow almost anywhere. I hope you get the help & advice you need, maybe book a session with your GP & discuss this. Xxx

Hysterectomy works for adenomyosis, not for endo because the endo is not in the uterus. There is no effective treatment for adenomyosis apart from hysterectomy, but once again, do not get a hysterectomy if you only have endo or want kids.

Sorry just saw this message, just wanted to say, there are 2great Facebook groups for those with adenomyosis, check them out,

Also, there are new treatments such as the Osada procedure, a specialised surgery that removes a lot of the bulk of adenomyosis, other treatments may be a available too, please look on the fb site ,

Thanks, take care

I have adenomyosis and endo think the only way endo is relieved is if the ovaries go so the hormone is not produced.

Arn't we taking about Adeno? Adeno (as far as i have read) can only be treated with a hysterectomy.

Did you have a hysterectomy in the end?

Ive just had excision surgery and now think a hysterectomy is what is needed as ive since discovered adeno.

2 years ago I had a total hysterectomy as had adenomyosis and stage 4 endo with bowel implications. I also had total bowel resection as endo had infiltrated it.

I was given HRT immediately after surgery and can honestly say I feel great. I have recently had a blip with bowels and I had concerns that endo was back but am now gluten free and back to feeling great. Obviously I don't know how I will feel in the future but the last 2 years have been amazing after suffering for more than 15 years with endo symptoms escalating and impacting my life hugely

It is such a big decision-good luck with everything
