CKD diagnosis

hi there first post.

Concerned about my kidney function/possible CKD. I am a nurse and regularly keep track of my urine but have noted protein and haematuria +++ on each test strip for atleast 12 months now. (I know I know I put it off!) I have now had kidney function and HBA1c bloods along with a load of others inc bone density, all results within normal range but continue to have high levels of haematuria and proteinuria without infection. Awaiting ACR results. Does anyone know how long this usually takes? Anyone else experienced ‘normal’ eGFR but still been diagnosed with CKD?

thanks xx

You may find the diagram shown in either of the 2 links below helpful in determining ckd. Let us know when you know your proteinuria and albuminuria/ACR levels.

So very similar to my mum's (she's CKD3 eg eGFR 50) at 31.4 mg/mmol or 277.88 mg/g. ACR has increased 100%/yr for a few years although I believe it may be influenced by the fact she has only 1 kidney. See my recent posts on this and other test results.

Remember that one blood test does not prove you have CKD. doctor's usually look for a trend over time. Usually they do look at your urine for the presence of protein and RBC. That is somewhat concerning that you have seen it for the last year. Do you have any other symptoms. When I was diagnosed my BP was high and my blood creatinine was 1.5. It took almost a year before I was told that I had CKD.

I guess I would see what your doctor has to say. The earlier the diagnosis of CKD the better, to change diet and hopefully stabilize your numbers.

I have had a transplant in 1999 and I do periodically have both protein and RBC in my urine with no sign of infection. Let us know your results.

I’ve had my urine ACR results today and they are 27.1mg/mmol which comes under the ‘moderately increased’ (just, cut off for next bracket is 30) so I guess that answers that one, have a follow up appt next week with the GP.
