cysts on kidneys

hello,

I have just had the results of a follow up scan. This one was a renal scan this Tim.

I first had an abdominal ultrasound in April. The stomach was mostly fine apart from fatty liver (moderate). They also found a complex cyst on my right kidney measuring 63 × 51 × 50mm.

It was labelled as haemorrhagic. Radiologist suggested a six month check up on cyst.

My recent renal scan found the cyst and anothe on my left kidney. It was labelled simple cyst.

Cyst on left kidney is 21 × 19mm

Right kidney cyst measures currently 85 x 63mm.

I was asked about symptoms but I don’t seem to have any specific symptoms. The right mid section of my stomach, there’s a dull pain, which is why I went to doctor earlier this year for. Mind you, that eased up and had no trouble in the sumner. Although returned. Get this pain from time to time. Lower pack pain towards the left sid of back. Cones on after any exertion, after walking in town with shopping bags. No trouble at all during the night, thankfully.

I’ve urine tests and all come back satisfactory. Blood tests came back satisfactory too.

I was told not to worry. GP Surgery will consult with urology. The thing that causes me a bit of worry is both kidneys have a cyst each. Not great news.

anyone been, or are in similar position? Is there away of reducing the cysts? Don’t if I should do something to help while I wait…

What a conundrum.

Edited; to correct spelling mistakes.

Cysts in the kidney are common and they are frequent incidental findings on imaging done for other reasons. They do not require any treatment. What you should be worried about is the fatty liver. Fatty liver disease causes inflammation which leads to fibrosis and then cirrhosis.

Thats the explanation I was given when cysts on kidney found in imaging.

So why are you worrying about it? BTW, the cysts are within the kidney, not on it.

Hi,

I have a cyst within my left kidney, I have had it for several years, it does not cause any issues, I have just one kidney with iga and medullary sponge kidney, my renal consultant informed me that cyst’s are quite common.

hi, thank you. I didn’t realise cysts were particularly common. They’re certainly worried and doctor told me not to worry. They are keen to monitor the situation. I think that worried me a little. Mind you, this diagnosis is very recent anyway. Thank you and look after yourself 😊

thanks for that. I spoke to doctor about fatty liver after the first scan. His response to that was to just lose weight… just like that. They were more keen to monitor kidney cysts. It does make me think the cysts are more important.

However, I’m looking at my diet. Looking at substitutions for things like crisps etc. I’m not perfect at it yet, it’s a constant work in progress for me. I cut down on alcohol quite dranssticalky since COVID lockdown. Thanks for reassurance on cysts. I’ll concentrate on better diet for the liver.
