Protein in urine
I'm confused about eGFR. If you plug 1.34 amd your age of 45 into the UK eGFR calculator you get between 48 and 55 depending on whether white or a.american female. If you plug the data into the NKF calculator you get 50 (there's no white/a.american.
How so eGFR 64 or 74 depending?
The result is a bit confusing. In fact to me it is largely confusing :). Each lab tests a bit differently and has different "normal" ranges. It is measured in mg/dl. Generally speaking most labs consider anything between 0 and 14 mg/dl as normal. Some will indicate 0 to 20 as normal. On your attachment is shows 5mg to 25 as normal. This in itself strikes me as odd, but I'm not a doctor. Typically we all have some amount of protein in our urine, but the less is better. So why your lab shows a higher "normal" range I can't understand. But even more confusing why they indicate the being at one notch lower than their usual range is considered a "problem" and marked low. The less protein in urine the better would be my understanding, not something marked as "L". BUT all that said, the person who knows best (your doctor) was not at all concerned. Nor would I be. But you say people are telling you this is not good. What people??? Medical people?? Likely not. Why do I say that? Well the less protein in urine the better. Here is something posted by the Mayo Clinic (certainly a reliable website and institution):
Protein is one of the substances identified during a test to analyze the content of your urine (urinalysis). Low levels of protein in urine are normal. Temporarily high levels of protein in urine aren't unusual either, particularly in younger people after exercise or during an illness.
Don't listen to people, to me, to others. This confuses you (as it would me as I described because of the range Quest considers normal), even though your doctor said all is fine. Ask the doctor to reassure you this is quite normal and in fact a good thing to be "L".
