Hi MKMH,

Sounds like you got some great news!

Honestly, I would speak to your nephrologist and have him/ her clarify " normal" to you well as 40%.

Take a look at all of your labs and check off anything that flags high or low next to the given ranges designated by the lab and ask questions.

I would also ask him/ her what stage of CKD you are in and what his/ her action plan is for you to keep things from progressing. Diet and avoiding certain foods may be one.

These are all questions which should be clearly explained from doctor to patient as your doctor is your first line of communication.

They are the professionals with the expertise and know both you and your whole case well. What may mean one thing on a set of labs may indicate something else on another.

We are all cheering for you and here at any time to listen, share and support.

Please reach out and let us know what he/ she says.

Positive Thoughts!

40 is stage 3b (moderate kidney disease). You are seeing a kidney doctor who gave you the level. Obviously you must also see a primary care doctor who referred you to the kidney doctor. So in other words you have known your kidney is being monitored, yet neither of these individuals ever explained to you what stage you are at. Certainly all doctors are different but it just seems it is basic for them to say your results are your egfr is xx which is stage xx. Especially so for the kidney doctor. Although I must say I find my own visits to the kidney doctor are basically useless and she does nothing much except test blood and urine and explain the results, every 6 months, which is something my primary care does anyway every 3 months.
