I have a normal BUN/Creatinine but my GFR is down to 57. Not sure how long its been low I haven't been getting regular blood work. I do not have underlying health problems other than high cholesterol.

normal creatinine decreased GFR
You will read a lot of posts talking about the reliability of the egfr formula at early stages. As you indicate, and it is a good question, your bun is normal, your creatinine is normal, yet they label you as diseased. I have been labeled such for over 3 years. Bouncing around stage 3a and 3 b, back and forth. I see several doctors (cardiologist, kidney, primary care, urologist, kidney) and they all tell me ignore the egfr level. Monitor my bun and creatinine level. This will tell you how your kidney is doing. And even if you have faith in the egfr philosophy you realize a good point. Your bun is normal. Your creatinine is normal, yet you have a disease?
And even so, stage 3A is considered MODERATE damage to the kidney.
How old are you? Do you have protein in your urine?
I would do a urinalysis to test if you have protein in your urine. If you do then I would schedule a visit with my dr. I would also look into going on a very low or low protein diet if you do have protein in your urine. I am not a dr but my experience is I have had protein in my urine for 4 years and I have recently converted over to a low protein diet with a supplemented keto acid and I have personally seen my labs improved.
