If not CKD, what are the other possibilities?

Hello. I have posted here before but now I have had my hospital referral and more tests done. My eGFR usually sits around 60 but goes down to 53 with highs of 70. I was referred to a consultant because of the drop to 53. Had blood work done and there wasn’t anything really showing except each time I have bloods done I have high haemaglobin and platelets. No protein in my urine.

I had my ultrasound done yesterday and there was nothing to show on it.

The consultant had said at the initial consultation that if there was nothing showing on bloods or ultrasound then I would need biopsy.

It doesn’t really look like I have ckd- has anyone had anything like this?

That’s me. The only thing that’s out of whack is my Gfr. It has gone from anywhere between 47 and 71 in the last eleven years. Everything is fine. I’m considering a biopsy as well.

It's me as well. My neph wasn't really much on doing a biopsy since he didn't feel like it would affect my treatment....or whatever you wanna call it.

You indicate your blood tests are "normal". Are you sure? is your Creatinine level in your blood work normal?? If your egfr bounces around as you indicate, then so must be your Creatinine levels. And they are likely not "normal". Setting that aside. It is not unusual for all the rest of your blood work to be normal, and still have "CKD". But that is part of the problem with the entire "egfr" process. It labels many people as diseased who are not. I don't understand what they expect to find with the biopsy. Usually a biopsy is done if there are other indicating factors. Usually these are blood in the urine, or protein in the urine. so I do not get it. You would think if they wish to be cautious they would do less invasive procedures first such as CT scan, and especially ultrasound. But lets assume the biopsy does indicate that the filters are not working 100%, or some other "problem". Let's face it. For CKD (other than an actual cause due to tumor, stone, blockage, none of which show in a biopsy), what would they do about it anyway??? The usual drink more water, watch diet, exercise, etc. If as you say your blood is okay, your urine is okay, then there must be some other driving factor to want a biopsy. Perhaps a 2nd opinion would be advisable.
